Indonesia E-Commerce Roadmap to launch Late January, feeding off Digital Economy push

The Indonesian Government has announced that it has finalised plans to introduce the national e-commerce road map, to be launched late this month.

During a meeting organized by the Coordinating Ministry on Economy, the roadmap was formalized, a Programme Management Unit was established to coordinate between the ministries and organisations to implement the roadmap, and the roadmap was planned to launch by later this month.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara, Minister of Planning Sofyan Djalil, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, Trade Minister Thomas Lembong, Head of Creative Economy Council Triawan Munaf, and Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Ronald Waas.

Representatives of the Indonesia E-Commerce Association (IDEA), Pos Indonesia, and the Indonesian Association of Shipment Services were present.

As e-commerce is booming in the region, this collaborative effort between government agencies represents the greater effort to seek economic stimulation.

President Joko Widodo directed the government to initiate a plan that would support e-commerce in the region as it represents sustainable value for the nation’s growing economy.

From the 31 e-commerce initiatives, the value of the transactions are expected to reach $130 billion by the year 2020.

During the meeting, all involved ministries and stakeholders were considered in forming the e-commerce framework. Through this collaborative effort, Indonesia will reap the benefits of the growing digital economy by providing its citizens and foreign investors more e-commerce leeway and opportunities.
