The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the crucial need for integrating digital transformation and green transition into Vietnam’s development strategy. He noted that these initiatives are not only vital for sustainable economic growth but also align with global trends, positioning Vietnam for a prosperous future.

Deputy Prime Minister Quang acknowledged the Vietnamese people for their intelligence, diligence, and readiness to embrace new technological advancements. He underscored that these qualities, coupled with proactive government policies and schemes, positioned Vietnam to actively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

However, he pointed out several significant challenges that need to be addressed. He cited the lack of mechanisms and policies designed to create an enabling environment for technology enterprises to flourish. The technology sector has not yet received the prioritisation or resources necessary to become a pioneering industry. In the global rankings, Vietnam stands at 150th out of 195 countries in leveraging green transition for socio-economic development.

To overcome these challenges, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of prioritising investment in digital infrastructure. He called for a strong focus on technology workforce training to ensure the availability of high-quality human resources. Additionally, he emphasised the need for mechanisms to encourage startups to engage in the digital and green sectors.

He urged Vietnam to effectively exploit and utilise global technological achievements through international cooperation and connections with experts. This approach is essential to achieving digital and green transformation and developing a robust digital economy.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung highlighted the importance of core technologies, such as semiconductors. He announced that the ministry has completed the final draft of the national strategy for semiconductor development, underlining the government’s commitment to advancing key technological areas.

Truong Gia Binh, Chairperson of the Founding Council of the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) emphasised that both green and digital transformation can significantly contribute to the development of the digital economy. However, he noted that this potential can only be realised with sufficient human resources dedicated to these emerging fields.

The annual event serves as a platform to discuss and promote digital transformation initiatives. It features workshops that delve into various aspects of digital transformation and green transition. An exhibition showcasing digital transformation solutions will also be held, along with business networking activities designed to foster collaboration between domestic and foreign companies.

The focus on digital and green transformation reflects Vietnam’s broader strategic objectives. OpenGov Asia reported that the Enterprise Development Department (EDD) under Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has launched a five-year digital transformation strategy aimed at empowering businesses across the nation to embrace digital technologies and sustainable practices.

Collaborating with various ministries, sectors, and localities, the initiative seeks to raise awareness and facilitate the adoption of digital transformation practices among enterprises. The initiative has successfully enhanced businesses’ understanding of the critical nature of digital transformation, as indicated by the recent Report on Digital Transformation 2023, evaluating businesses’ readiness for digitalisation.

Despite increasing awareness, Vietnamese businesses often face challenges in navigating the digital transformation process independently, underscoring the need for supportive policies, programmes, and consultation services.

Through assistance in formulating digital transformation roadmaps and implementing suitable solutions, stakeholders can empower businesses to thrive in the evolving digital landscape.

Vietnam aims to boost economic resilience, elevate citizen’s quality of life, and assert itself in the global digital economy by employing digital tools and sustainable practices, supported by technology investment, workforce development, and international collaboration, driving significant progress towards a sustainable and digitally advanced future
