The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is at the forefront of showcasing the country’s cutting-edge AI innovations, spanning various sectors, including life-saving technologies, robotics, and metaverse content creation platforms. It underscores Hong Kong’s commitment to being a global leader in AI and smart city development.
The platform serves as a significant stage for showcasing AI technology. Under the theme “Governing AI for Good and for All,” the conference aims to foster collaborative discussions and enhance governance through AI. Bringing together leading enterprises and research talent, it offers startups invaluable opportunities for business cooperation and exchanges both locally and internationally. This makes it an exemplary platform for demonstrating Hong Kong’s research prowess.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang, officiating the event at the opening ceremony, proposed several key recommendations for advancing global AI governance. He emphasised the need for international collaboration to facilitate the cross-border flow of data and talent, create a fair and open environment for AI development, and establish comprehensive international mechanisms for developing and enforcing globally accepted governance frameworks and standards. These directives align with HKSTP’s mission to drive innovation through cooperation and regulatory advancements.
AI is a pivotal driver of the new industrial revolution, playing a crucial role in advancing Hong Kong’s digital economy. The World Competitiveness Yearbook 2024, published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), ranks Hong Kong 5th among 67 economies globally. This ranking reflects Hong Kong’s ideal position as a launchpad for I&T companies to go global, attracting top talent and driving the development of AI.
HKSTP’s efforts are bolstered by the establishment of a supercomputing centre at Tseung Kwan O InnoPark, set to commence operations in the latter half of the year. This facility, alongside the Data Technology Hub and the Digital Service Hub, aims to accelerate AI development and solidify Hong Kong’s position as an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub. These state-of-the-art facilities are expected to provide the computational power and infrastructure necessary to support AI research and development, making Hong Kong a central node in the global AI network.
Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, expressed pride in showcasing Hong Kong’s vibrant AI innovations on the global stage with the potential to create a significant global impact. “HKSTP remains dedicated to nurturing startups and providing extensive support to accelerate AI development, reinforcing our commitment to advancing Hong Kong’s digital economy and AI capabilities.”
HKSTP is driving local startups to global prominence through its Innovation Mixer initiative, enabling participation in major global exhibitions. This year, HKSTP will lead several startups to a key innovation showcase in Bangkok, aiming to open global markets, expand investor networks, and enhance Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystems.
Through these initiatives, HKSTP underscores its commitment to advancing AI and digital innovation, positioning Hong Kong as a leader in the global AI landscape. By nurturing startups and providing them with the tools and platforms needed to succeed on the world stage, HKSTP is helping to shape the future of AI and smart city development, not only in Hong Kong but globally.
HKSTP is also leading the charge in propelling the nation towards becoming a regional powerhouse. Its efforts include nurturing startups through roadshows, facilitating business matching, and supporting tech enterprises from R&D to commercialisation.
At events like the “Hong Kong International Innovation and Technology Exhibition 2024” and the “Hong Kong Spring Electronics Fair,” HKSTP demonstrates Hong Kong’s technological prowess and its role as a regional innovation hub. They showcase AI-integrated solutions and other notable innovations, reflecting its progress in advanced technologies like AI and IoT.
HKSTP remains dedicated to fostering innovation, supporting tech enterprise growth, and positioning Hong Kong as a global leader in innovation and technology.
