President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the pivotal role of technology and innovation in elevating workforce productivity and improving the quality of life for Filipinos during a recent speech. Delivered by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy in Pasay City, the President’s address highlighted the administration’s commitment to harnessing technological advancements for national growth and development.
President Marcos highlighted that the administration’s strategic focus on technology aims to drive progress across multiple sectors, enhancing both individual livelihoods and national infrastructure. He acknowledged that the Philippines benefits from a steady stream of skilled professionals, with around 170,000 students graduating annually in fields such as engineering, IT, and sciences. These graduates are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s technological and industrial advancements.
The President reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting this talent pool by providing more opportunities for learning and skill development. This commitment aligns with broader objectives outlined in the National Science and Technology Plan and the Philippine Development Plan. Through the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) programme, the government aims to implement high-impact research initiatives that foster innovation and technological growth.
In addition, the Board of Investments is developing a comprehensive support package for electronic companies aiming to enter or expand their operations in the Philippines. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to attract and support investments in the technology sector, ensuring that the country remains competitive on the global stage.
President Marcos called upon stakeholders to seize the opportunities presented by these technological advancements and to collaborate in creating a “Bagong Pilipinas” – a new Philippines characterised by robust digital transformation and reinforced aspirations. He highlighted the importance of deepening partnerships and engaging in constructive discussions to drive forward the nation’s technological ambitions.

He acknowledged the significant role these exhibitions play in stimulating a globally competitive environment and providing innovative solutions for various sectors, from construction to electronics.

He noted that the growth of these sectors not only contributes to a digitally connected future but also enhances the country’s competitive edge by leveraging its highly skilled and well-trained workforce.
