The Indonesian Internet Domain Name Management (PANDI) continues solidifying its position as a pioneer in digital technology development by introducing its latest innovation, IDCHAIN. This blockchain-based digital identity management system is designed to enhance the protection and management of personal data, an issue that has become increasingly critical amidst rising threats of hacking and data breaches. IDCHAIN is a technological solution relevant to today’s challenges and a strategic step in guiding Indonesia toward a more secure and decentralised digital era.
PANDI Chairman, John Sihar Simanjuntak, stressed that IDCHAIN will be a vital component of the personal data protection ecosystem in the future. “Not only does it comply with the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP), but it also strengthens individuals’ rights over their data, bringing us closer to a new era where privacy and data security are top priorities,” said John. IDCHAIN is designed to respond to the growing number of hacking and data breaches, which jeopardise individual privacy and pose threats to national security and corporate integrity.
With a blockchain-based approach, IDCHAIN offers more secure digital identity management, where personal data is no longer centralised within a single entity but is directly managed by the data owner. The blockchain technology underlying this system ensures that every transaction and data change is recorded transparently and cannot be manipulated. Additionally, IDCHAIN adopts the UID Protocol, which adheres to the Decentralised Identifiers (W3C DID) standard, a globally recognised standard for decentralised identification.
The W3C DID standard ensures that users or UID subjects have complete control over their identity without relying on centralised authorities such as government agencies or large corporations. This aligns with the spirit of decentralisation in blockchain technology, which puts control back in the hands of users. Thus, IDCHAIN protects personal data and empowers individuals to manage their identities independently. This aligns with the demands of the digital era, which increasingly prioritises privacy and security.
However, the biggest challenge in adopting this technology is introducing the concept of decentralised identifiers (DID) to the broader public. Therefore, John mentioned that PANDI is very open to collaborating with various stakeholders, including the government, industry, and academia, to expand the reach and application of IDCHAIN.
PANDI reaffirmed its commitment to driving blockchain technology’s sustainable development in Indonesia. The event was a significant moment to introduce IDCHAIN to the global community and showcase how Indonesia is ready to become a key player in blockchain and digital identity technology. John stated that IDCHAIN will be a pioneer in integrating blockchain technology with personal data protection, a breakthrough that offers better security and builds greater public trust in digital services.
The support of existing regulations must support the successful implementation of IDCHAIN. Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection provides a crucial legal foundation for protecting individuals’ rights regarding their data. By adhering to this regulation, IDCHAIN ensures that the innovations developed remain in line with applicable laws while providing legal certainty for users. Personal data protection has become more comprehensive, with technology and regulations working together to create a safe ecosystem.
Through IDCHAIN, PANDI is innovating and strategically positioning Indonesia in the global digital technology landscape. IDCHAIN has excellent potential to be adopted in Indonesia and other countries seeking solutions for secure and decentralised digital identity management. This is essential in realising Indonesia’s vision as a technology innovation hub in Southeast Asia and globally.
As blockchain technology continues to evolve and awareness of the importance of personal data protection grows, IDCHAIN is foreseen to be a solution that addresses the challenges of the digital age while providing benefits to all levels of society. This innovation concerns technology, trust, and security, which are the fundamental pillars of building a sustainable and inclusive digital ecosystem.
