Singapore Polytechnic (SP) reinforced its role as a leader in the built environment sector by unveiling new strategic partnerships and innovative solutions at an expo recently. These initiatives underscore SP’s commitment to driving industry transformation through digitalisation, technological innovation, and sustainability.
At this year’s exposition, SP highlighted its commitment to advancing digitalisation and innovation in the built environment through various showcases. These included a mixed-reality construction workflow developed by SP’s Architecture & the Built Environment School. This innovative solution enhances construction accuracy and efficiency by overlaying complex design models onto physical environments, reducing human error and streamlining the assembly process.
SP’s Data Science & Analytics Centre (DSAC) introduced an AI-enabled Parts Management system designed to optimise inventory levels and improve maintenance practices. This solution addresses common challenges such as overstocking and parts shortages, ensuring a more sustainable and efficient approach to facility management.
In collaboration with various industry partners, SP’s Advanced Materials Technology Centre (AMTC) showcased products that advance sustainability, buildability, and maintainability, demonstrating their readiness for widespread adoption in the industry.
In line with its mission to drive industry transformation, SP launched the Built Environment (BE) Transformation Learning Journey, supported by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). This initiative aims to provide SMEs and students with insights into the future of the BE sector, focusing on integrated planning, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable urban systems.
Through this learning journey, participants can explore how digital technologies and innovative practices are reshaping the industry, ensuring that they are prepared to contribute to this dynamic and evolving field.
Singapore Polytechnic’s Deputy Principal (Development), Ms Georgina Phua, emphasised the institution’s dedication to leading the digital transformation in the built environment sector.
“Our integrated approach sets new industry benchmarks, solidifying our position as a leader in driving industry transformation and fostering meaningful advancements,” she stated.
At the event, SP signed agreements with four prominent industries. These collaborations focus on integrating advanced digital technologies, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainability within the built environment (BE) sector. These partnerships are set to enhance productivity, streamline processes, and prepare a future-ready workforce equipped with cutting-edge skills.
SP’s partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI Singapore) aims to develop a skilled workforce in sustainability by offering Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Practitioner and Professional certifications. These certifications enable professionals to help organisations achieve net-zero goals through accurate GHG emissions reporting, verified by advanced digital tools.
The alliance with the facility services company is dedicated to driving innovation and digitalisation within the facilities management sector. This collaboration will support curriculum development, provide industry attachment opportunities, and focus on integrating Smart FM technologies into educational programmes. These initiatives will equip students and professionals with the skills needed to manage modern, tech-driven facilities efficiently.
The real estate conglomerate’s collaboration with SP is set to foster innovation by leveraging The GEAR Lab as a living laboratory for testing new technologies. This partnership will support SP startups and create Learning Journeys that allow students to engage with real-world applications of cutting-edge digital tools in the construction industry.
The construction group’s partnership with SP focuses on enhancing productivity and digital adoption through joint projects and talent development. This collaboration ensures that SP students gain hands-on experience in industry-relevant projects, bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application in the digital age.
Celebrating its 70th anniversary, Singapore Polytechnic (SP), founded in 1954, remains a leader in education by focusing on digital innovation, sustainability, and industry partnerships. Offering diverse programmes and innovative learning methods, SP integrates Continuing Education and Training (CET) and aligns its curriculum with industry needs to prepare over 12,000 students for success in a technology-driven world.
