The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia’s leading digital economy agency under the Ministry of Digital (KD), successfully hosted the 19th edition of its My Digital Tour (Jelajah Saya Digital – JSD) programme for 2024. The event spanned two days and attracted nearly 2,000 visitors. The program was part of MDEC’s ongoing effort to promote digital literacy and economic empowerment across the country.
The JSD initiative supports the Ministry of Digital’s core objectives—Digital Government, Digital Economy, and Digital Society. Launched in 2020 under the Saya Digital campaign, it aims to equip Malaysians with essential digital skills to thrive in the evolving economy. Amid rising living costs, MDEC plays a key role in empowering citizens through technology and promoting smart lifestyle solutions.
JSD is also closely aligned with the Pahang Digital Plan 2021-2025, which envisions Pahang as a vibrant economic hub. The plan focuses on leveraging digital technology to attract high-value investments and create high-income job opportunities for local youth. Through this alignment, JSD seeks to contribute to the state’s vision of becoming a leader in digital innovation and economic growth.
JSD centres around four main pillars: Saya Digital Literacy, Saya Digital Business, Saya Digital Freelance and Saya Digital Career.
These pillars are designed to benefit marginalised communities, including the B40 income group, unemployed graduates, senior citizens, people with disabilities (OKU), school and university students, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (PMKS). By participating in the JSD program, these groups can access new opportunities to enhance their digital capabilities and actively contribute to Malaysia’s growing digital economy.
In addition to JSD, MDEC has been instrumental in spearheading other key initiatives like the eUsahawan and MyDigitalMaker programs. The eUsahawan program, which focuses on equipping students and entrepreneurs with digital skills, has reached 564,629 students from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, as well as entrepreneurs across Malaysia.
These participants have collectively generated over RM1.26 billion in cumulative sales. Of that total, 27,495 entrepreneurs from Pahang have contributed RM46.61 million in sales, reflecting the program’s effectiveness in fostering economic growth through digital entrepreneurship.
The MyDigitalMaker program, meanwhile, focuses on fostering digital creativity among school students. It has engaged over 32,000 students in Pahang through digital manufacturing activities, introducing them to the world of digital technology and inspiring a new generation of tech-savvy innovators.
JSD @ Temerloh featured a diverse range of activities designed to engage participants and promote digital awareness. One of the standout sessions was a Cyber Security Awareness presentation by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), which provided critical insights into staying safe in the digital world.
PMKS entrepreneurs benefited from practical demonstrations of rapid digital marketing techniques, including the use of platforms like TikTok to boost visibility and increase sales. This hands-on approach to digital marketing empowered entrepreneurs to harness the power of social media to reach broader audiences and grow their businesses.
Another crowd-puller was a special sharing session on Artificial Intelligence (AI) trends. This session, which focused on the use of AI in healthcare and digital applications for monitoring health, was particularly well-received by the elderly participants, who were keen to learn how technology can improve their quality of life.
MDEC’s continued efforts, through initiatives like JSD, are vital to Malaysia’s digital transformation. By focusing on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and career development, MDEC is not only empowering communities but also paving the way for a robust and inclusive digital economy. Through partnerships with key stakeholders, MDEC is driving the digital agenda, enhancing the quality of life, and ensuring that all Malaysians have the tools they need to succeed in the digital era.
