Artificial Intelligence for Active Learning in Thailand

Thai authorities are encouraging government entities to use AI for active learning in educational institutions. Dr Jakkanit Kananurak, Director of the Digital Workforce Development Department at the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), revealed the agency’s objective is to promote and assist the development of digital skills among the country’s human resources and staff, with a particular emphasis on the younger generation.

Through the promotion and development of 1,500 schools by the year 2023, depa intends to harness the potential of teachers and young people. In addition, thanks to the organisation’s intentions to establish a user-friendly online learning platform, students can access all course materials at any time of day or night.

The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) is collaborating with Chiang Mai Primary Educational Service Area Office 4 and Ban San Pa Sak School to develop the course of study, where the facility functions as a primary partner in the industry. The Agency has previously provided funding for school building modifications to improve access to technology for teaching and learning and boost teacher agency and student access to possibilities for developing skills and creative problem-solving.

Teachers and students from all around the country can attend classes at the depa Coding School to improve their digital abilities. Over 2,000 people have applied to participate in the teaching and learning activities organised by the Agency.

Recently a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Digital Economy Promotion Agency and the Capital Management and Capital Management Unit for National Competitiveness Enhancement (PorKhor) organisations. The MoU planned to capitalise on the findings of research and development (R&D) projects to boost the competitiveness of a wide range of industries operating within the digital technology sector.

Research and development in artificial intelligence, smart electronics, robotics, and automation will get a boost from this collaborative effort. The emphasis is placed on promoting collaborations between deep tech developers and other industries, with the primary goal being the translation of research potential into practical applications. The mission is to encourage research that may be put to commercial use, as well as to facilitate the development of chances for Thai citizens to thrive worldwide.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the “EJD Creates Thai Economy” event, which sought to connect the world with research and innovation to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness in 2023. Notable examples of remarkable research findings from eight different industry groups were presented to demonstrate the effective translation of research into user-oriented products.

Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission Puchphong Nodthaisong recently met with representatives from the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) to discuss the implementation of AI Ethics & Governance. The gathering was a promising first step in advancing the use of AI responsibly and morally throughout Thailand’s digital economy and culture.

They also explored ways to better implement Thailand’s National AI Action Plan for Development (2017-2027), which aims to get the country’s culture, ethics, legal structure, and legislation fit for AI use. Governments that use AI practices become more open and accessible, and all citizens benefit from this. Improving AI involves a focus on the here and now and the facilitation of resource management.

As Thailand works towards 4.0, the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan will help to foster talent and develop an ecosystem that will boost the country’s technological competitiveness. The program’s goals include improving society and the environment as well as the economy. The country will be ready in the fields of society, ethics, law, and regulation thanks to the action plan.

According to Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the action plan would construct a central platform for AI services and encourage the development of AI-related human resources in Thailand, with the goal of training at least 13,500 professionals in the field each year.
