Digitalisation in the Philippines Boosting Economic Growth and Development

In the Philippines, digitalisation is being applied to increase process efficiency, streamline processes, and boost overall productivity, with the goal of improving economic growth and development.

Manila, the Philippines’ capital city, is ready for the complete deployment of the single ticketing system, which is scheduled today, May 2. City Mayor Honey Lacuna stated that they are ready to adopt the system and have directed the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) to guarantee that the workers are already conversant with it.

The Manila local Chief Executive further claimed that the city council has passed an ordinance establishing standardised sanctions for identified common traffic crimes, as well as another legislation for traffic-related offences not covered by the traffic code.

Because they already have an existing system for the project, Manila is one of seven cities that will pilot test the new system. The Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023 created a network of interconnected government agencies responsible for managing the city’s transit and traffic, with uniform fines and penalties.

According to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Resolution No. 23-02, the unified ticketing system will harmonise current national and local traffic rules to promote effective transportation and traffic management in the metropolis.

According to the Manila Mayor, the new system is also intended to help handle other procedures such as apprehension, payment of penalties, the redemption of licences and plates, and uncoordinated application of traffic regulations, which results in confusion among drivers, loss of money, and productive hours. She also stated that the single ticketing system makes it easier for apprehended motorists to pay for traffic offences regardless of where they were caught and issued citations.

In addition, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has opened its new Assistance in Crisis Situation (AICS) programme satellite offices to prevent crowding in the current processing areas and to bring various services and interventions closer to residents of Metro Manila and Bulacan province.

The DSWD Field Office-National Capital Region in Sampaloc, Manila, which serves clients from the cities of Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong, and Makati, and the DSWD Central Office along Batasan Road, which services the entirety of Quezon City and Northern Caloocan.

To play a crucial part in revolutionising social service delivery across the nation, the DSWD is also getting ready to form its Digital Transformation (DX) Team, which will include professionals and experts from various Information and Communications Technology (ICT) disciplines who are talented and passionate.

As part of the DSWD’s digital transformation strategy, the DX team will work on a variety of cutting-edge initiatives targeted at optimising procedures, promoting accessibility, and increasing productivity.

The DSWD leadership is dedicated to utilising state-of-the-art technologies to provide beneficiaries with a seamless, user-friendly experience that will ultimately have an impact on the lives of millions of Filipinos.

The department is now accepting applications from experts and professionals in a variety of fields who are interested in joining the DX Team, including enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, software quality engineering, full-stack web development, UI/UX design, data privacy and project management.

The DSWD is excited to add creative and driven people to its DX team and transform the way social services are provided in the Philippines in the future. Professionals who join DSWD’s digital transformation initiative can advance their careers while significantly improving the lives of millions of Filipinos.
