Digitising the Fresh Market Industry in Thailand

To modernise the fresh market industry in Thailand’s Chonburi province, the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) has launched a new initiative, the Transform Fresh Market Project. The programme’s goals are to quicken the development of a digital prototype market, improve the expertise of Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and use digital technology to save expenses and expand profits.

Executive Vice President of Depa’s Digital Application Promotion Group, Dr Preesarn Rakwatin, stressed that depa understood the significance of assisting Thai SMEs in leveraging technology and digital innovation for development and survival. The project aims to foster an atmosphere where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the digital sphere may collaborate and support one another, just as they do with their counterparts in other industries. Chonburi province is among 25 nationwide to receive attention as part of depa’s drive to modernise fresh markets.

The Deputy Governor of Chonburi Province, Thitilak Khampha, has approved the project and emphasised the importance of knowing digital technology in corporate growth. Chonburi Province business owners will reap the rewards of this programme through increased sales, exposure, and the launch of cutting-edge digital services.

In 2023, the project will provide a lecture, debate, and training session focused on helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adapt to the digital age and seize new prospects for growth. In addition, there were other activities aimed at connecting digital providers, digital startups, and application operators with SME business owners and other small business owners. Overall, depa’s goal with this programme is to encourage and grow the construction of a digital prototype market in Chonburi Province, opening new avenues for business owners and boosting the region’s competitiveness.

The training was also recently organised by the Upper North Branch of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) to spread the word about how crucial it is to keep up with the latest developments in digital marketing. The goal of the training was to improve the occupational efficiency of local business owners and residents so that they could better meet the ever-changing demands of their digitally savvy clients. There were around 45 people there, and they engaged in a Q&A session where they talked about the difficulties of using social media.

On a separate occasion, Governor Chutidet Meechan and the Integrated Provincial Administration Committee (Public Organisation) accepted the depa’s proposal to boost the province’s digital economy in Phrae Province from 2023-2027. The plan focused on providing services for a better quality of life; efforts are being put into improving agricultural productivity, protecting the environment, fostering responsible tourism, and fostering personal growth.

The plan aims to aid the province in reaching its development objective of “Phrae is a liveable city, strong community Creative Economy, Safe Agriculture, Rich Natural Resources Sustainable Tourism.”

Involvement of all sectors in Phrae province’s growth along the lines of the strategy to promote the digital economy by area is another goal. This includes government agencies, the commercial sector, educational institutions, and agencies. They are prepared to work together to advance the province’s digital economy promotion plan.

In another development, Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), along with Puchphong Nodthaisong, Secretary-General of the Digital Economy and Society Committee of Thailand, inspected the Digital Community Center at Ban Tang Wai School, Khlong Wan Sub-district, Mueang District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.

The ministries inspect to assess the use of digital technology in the area to drive the economy and society and how people utilise public digital technology learning centres. Currently, digital community centres have been established in 77 provinces, with more than 2,000 locations across the country.
