The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the Quality Education Fund (QEF) have joined forces to propel the advancement of education technology (EdTech) through their collaborative initiative, the e-Learning Ancillary Facilities Programme. With a resolute commitment to fostering innovation and equipping students for the future, this groundbreaking partnership envisions a dynamic landscape where technology converges seamlessly with education.

The initiative includes a substantial financial commitment by the QEF, earmarking an impressive HK$500 million for the comprehensive implementation of the Programme. A significant portion, approximately HK$260 million, is dedicated to fuelling the development of pioneering projects that harness the potential of cutting-edge technologies. These technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, big data, and the immersive Metaverse, stand poised to revolutionise the learning experience.

The QEF is also allocating around HK$240 million to sponsor publicly-funded schools in utilising the outcomes generated by these projects. This pivotal facet aims to bridge the gap between innovative solutions and practical application, ensuring that the educational community reaps tangible benefits from the integration of EdTech.

Some 23 meticulously curated projects have been selected to receive funding, encompassing a diverse spectrum of disciplines and innovative technology domains. These forward-thinking initiatives underscore a collective ambition to enhance pedagogical approaches and reimagine the boundaries of traditional education. By embracing the potential of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, big data analytics, and the intriguing Metaverse, these projects envision a learning environment that is engaging, adaptive, and immersive.

At a recent inaugural ceremony, a trustee of the QEF and the Permanent Secretary for Education, acknowledged HKPC’s pivotal role as a strategic partner in this transformative journey. The HKPC, fortified by its robust scientific research capabilities and expansive industry network, is poised to provide invaluable consulting services to project recipients. These services, ranging from technical assistance to strategic marketing insights, will empower the grant recipients to establish robust networks, proficiently execute their initiatives, and explore far-reaching opportunities within the Greater Bay Area and global markets.

The Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC underscored the organisation’s commitment to fortifying the ‘Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint,’ further catalysing the integration of technology into education. The synergy between innovation and education positions students for future success, elevating their competitiveness on a global scale.

In a resolute bid to democratise access to EdTech, the HKPC has embarked on a multifaceted approach. By fostering close alliances with the education sector, innovation and technology (I&T) industries, and the business community, the organisation orchestrates insightful “Industry Network Clusters” sessions. These sessions serve as conduits for diverse perspectives and insights from various industries, channelling their collective wisdom into the realm of EdTech.

Moreover, the HKPC forges symbiotic partnerships with schools, educational institutions, and technology enterprises, culminating in collaborative agreements aimed at amplifying the adoption of EdTech. These agreements encompass an array of initiatives, including teacher training, technological research, and the prolific application of EdTech.

To kindle interest and raise awareness, the HKPC spearheads innovative endeavours such as the “TechEd Playground” and the captivating “Summer TechEd Fest.” These platforms captivate educators, parents, and students alike, kindling a collective fascination with EdTech’s potential.

The “InnoPreneur Network” platform, nurtured by HKPC, serves as a nexus uniting funded projects and the burgeoning EdTech industry. Beyond serving as a knowledge-sharing forum, it facilitates strategic partnerships and serves as an incubator for the application and evolution of I&T within education.

The main aim of the Programme is to invigorate learning and teaching efficacy across diverse subjects. It fervently encourages and empowers the education sector to continually conceive innovative pedagogical solutions underscored by emerging technologies. As the frontiers of learning expand, this initiative forges pathways for local students across secondary, primary, and kindergarten levels, even extending its reach to students with special educational needs.

In aligning with emergent technological trends, the Programme seeks to arm students with the quintessential skills and knowledge requisite for their future endeavours. Through this collaborative odyssey, the HKPC and the QEF chart a transformative trajectory that not only augments education but also charts a course toward a technologically enriched educational paradigm. The symphony of technology and education has never been more harmonious, and the echoes of this collaboration are poised to resonate far into the future.
