According to a recent press release, ten partner companies and six incubatees from Hong Kong, Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) received 16 awards from various categories at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2019.

Among those awardees, two were honoured with Gold Awards in the “ICT Startup – Social Impact” and the “Smart Business – Solution for Business and Public Sector Enterprise” categories respectively, demonstrating the power of innovation in advancing business and bettering society.

One incubatee company won Gold in the “ICT Startup Award – Social Impact” category for their online STEM teaching and learning platform, Una (which means ‘together’ in Latin) for primary and secondary school students. This online platform promotes collaborative learning for teachers and students with features such as co-coding and a virtual classroom to provide a fresh approach in digital teaching that inspires co-creation among peers.

The Founder and Managing Director of the incubatee noted that the award is concrete proof of the firm’s vision of enhancing educational quality and, thus, bettering society through technological advancement. The EdTech platform offers inventive classroom management functions to alleviate teachers’ in-class stress, at the same time, it facilitates collaborative learning and mutual growth among students, resulting in a win-win scenario between students and teachers.

The Founder noted that the professional R&D environment and business advice provided by HKSTP was extremely helpful.

An HKSTP Grantee won the Gold in the “Smart Business Award – Solution for Business and Public Sector Enterprise” category for their Smart Planning solution. The solution help manufacturers plan, schedule, dispatch, execute and monitor the performance of their manufacturing processes and factories. It is designed for complex make-to-order environments and products that require many manufacturing tasks.

The Chief Information Officer of the firm noted that winning the award is a testament to the firm’s digital determination in driving the company ahead by investing in smart technologies and people. Smart Planning is a fascinating concept and ingenious idea for solving complex optimisation problems found in the manufacturing environment of the printing industry made real by the firm. It underscores the company’s commitment to adopting Industry 4.0 practices to transform the way it works and speeds up the delivery of value to customers.

The head noted that their aim is to inspire like-minded companies actively seeking to adopt smart technologies to create business value. With HKSTP’s access to a wide range of technology and resources, the firm is keen to witness more collaboration between technology start-ups and traditional manufacturers, and look forward to expediting re-industrialisation, commercialising innovations and maximising return on investment.

The Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP stated that it is encouraging to see incubatees and partner companies receive recognition at the Hong Kong ICT Awards as they represent the best showcase for Hong Kong’s technological creativity and I&T talent.

It is also proof of the efforts being made by the tech and I&T professionals in Hong Kong. In addition, it is a testament to the support I&T available in Hong Kong start-ups to help them to their next stage of growth.

The help being received are showing results. The vibrancy of Hong Kong’s largest I&T ecosystem at HKSTP provides a fertile ground for the development of best-of-breed innovations. With the Greater Bay Area going into high gear, it is hoped that the Park’s awardees will continue to leverage the opportunities, achieve new heights in their respective technological fields, and bring benefits to the society in the long run.

Steered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer and organised by Hong Kong ICT industry associations and professional bodies, the annual Hong Kong ICT Awards recognises and promotes outstanding information and communications technology (ICT) solutions and applications designed and developed in Hong Kong.
