HKSTP Launches New Programme to Push Forward I&T in HK

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is working to attract young local and global talent to explore technology careers in Hong Kong with the launch of its “Talent Game On 2K23” talent program. The first event in the series is a virtual game called “Talent Quest,” which is intended to demonstrate that the innovation and technology (I&T) community welcomes talent from all backgrounds.

Hong Kong has the potential to experience a “golden era” of growth, driven by innovation and technology (I&T), which will create new opportunities for current and future generations.

The “Talent Quest” challenge, which is open to young talent, graduates, and students from STEM and non-STEM backgrounds, is gamified and designed to allow participants to explore various career paths in I&T, with the exciting possibility of winning a trip to Silicon Valley.

The multi-stage challenge, which incorporates virtual and physical activities, aims to engage, and immerse young minds in technology while providing a pathway to a broad range of career opportunities in the local I&T ecosystem.

According to the Head of Talents and Human Resources at HKSTP, the Talent Game On 2K23 programme, which includes unique activities such as the Talent Quest challenge, is designed to encourage and motivate young talent to explore new career paths in I&T.

The Park aims to demonstrate that the world of technology is not exclusive to tech experts and that it welcomes talent from all backgrounds, providing exciting new career opportunities while also fueling the talent pipeline to support Hong Kong’s future growth.

Until 18 March 2022, individuals who are interested in the Talent Quest can visit the virtual platform and take on problem-solving challenges to qualify for the next stage, which is the “Park Exploration.” This stage will take place on 10, 11, 17, and 18 March and will involve physical activities for individuals from all backgrounds, with themes such as AI and robotics, biomedical technology, data, green tech, and microelectronics.

As part of the Park Exploration stage, there will be a “Battle with Bosses” flash interview, which will feature top HKSTP companies. Participants will have the opportunity to gain experience about the latest industry trends from these companies through various sharing sessions, and these two-way job matching opportunities could even lead to immediate job offers. The final stage will include job simulation activities, with successful finalists who receive a job offer progressing to the next stage where they will have a chance to win a trip to Silicon Valley to meet tech giants and gain global exposure.

To further enhance career development opportunities, HKSTP will be hosting the “GBA InnoAcademy Master Class Series” starting from 14 March. The series will include five expert-led webinars on microelectronics technology trends and career opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

The Talent Game On 2K23 activities will continue until the annual “Hong Kong’s largest I&T Career Expo,” which will take place from 18 March to 17 April. The expo will feature an all-in-one virtual I&T job-matching platform, which will enable employers and job seekers from around the world to connect with each other.

A key driver of Hong Kong’s economic growth is Innovation and technology (I&T), as the government seeks to position the city as a global technology hub. Hong Kong has a solid foundation in areas such as finance, logistics, and professional services, which it can leverage to develop its I&T sector. The government has implemented a range of policies and initiatives to support the growth of the I&T sector.

In addition, the government has invested heavily in research and development, with a focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotech. The government is also providing financial incentives and support for companies engaged in I&T activities, including tax breaks, funding schemes, and support for intellectual property protection. These initiatives have helped to create a vibrant and dynamic I&T ecosystem in Hong Kong, which is attracting both local and international talent and investment.
