HKSTP Partner to Help Start-ups

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is joining a global technology distributor and solution provider to provide go-to-market and distribution support to tech ventures. Selected companies will be able to reach new customers, qualify for new opportunities and gain a footprint in Greater Bay Area and overseas markets.

HKSTP and the global technology distributor will identify high potential Science Park companies, and shortlisted companies will scale up their business through awarding distribution agreements with the world-leading technology provider.

Under the collaboration, an AI robotics start-up is the first Science Park company to be able to expand its distribution network in Hong Kong and overseas, while also benefitting from opportunities to collaborate with the technology distributor’s channel partners and system integrators.

The CEO at HKSTP stated that the strategic collaboration between HKSTP and the technology distributor helps tackle one of the biggest challenges facing start-ups today – distribution and go-to-market capabilities. This further enhances their innovation ecosystem by connecting Park Companies with a global IT distribution and solution provider that opens regional and global opportunities to our high potential start-ups.

The Managing Director of the technology distributor’s Hong Kong & Macau branch stated that the launch of the partnership is proof of the company’s ongoing support of the Hong Kong innovation ecosystem and injects cutting-edge technology into their portfolio, delivering a full spectrum of the latest and best capabilities for customers.

Start-ups that are successfully matched in this collaboration are supported via three vital components – Explore, Fulfillment and Distribution. The start-ups will explore opportunities with the technology distributor’s hand-picked channel partners with well-suited co-selling and solution-building capabilities.

Fulfilment is enabled as selected start-ups will be connected with channel partners, system integrators and tech partners for potential collaboration. They will have a chance to collaborate with system integrators and other tech providers to co-create solutions to meet a wider variety of customer needs.

Concerning Distribution, start-ups will be able to significantly expand their market reach and potential, access the technology distributor’s global channel partner networks, as well as receive co-selling, marketing and business development support.

InvestHK notes that with its proximity to Mainland China and strong support from the government, Hong Kong is well-positioned to develop innovation and technology.

Major R&D infrastructures such as the purpose-built Hong Kong Science and Technology Park and Cyberport are helping drive innovation and technology whilst the vigorous enforcement of intellectual property protection provides a sense of security for companies.

  • Biomedicine – Plans to promote advancements in medical technology combined with the modernisation of Traditional Chinese Medicine has given the sector a boost. Medical and healthcare equipment companies in Hong Kong have opportunities to be contract manufacturers and sourcing partners.

  • Electronics – As a major centre for the region’s electronics industry, Hong Kong offers a solid research base with rigorous intellectual property protection, comprehensive communications and excellent transport networks. Local and foreign companies use the city for various activities including IC design, R&D, procurement and sourcing, manufacturing control and much more.
  • Clean Technologies – Due to geographic and cultural proximity to Mainland China, the city is the ideal entry point for facilitating access to Mainland markets in the sourcing and manufacturing of clean technology products, such as renewable energy generation equipment, sensors, monitoring and detection equipment.
