HKSTP to Pioneer Green Tech Ecosystem

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has made a significant commitment to environmental sustainability by announcing its dedication to achieving the Net-Zero Standard. This ambitious goal will be pursued through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with a target timeline set for 2045.

HKSTP aims to achieve this milestone five years ahead of Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 Carbon Neutrality target, showcasing its commitment to taking a leading role in combating climate change.

As the first statutory body in Hong Kong to commit to Net-Zero by 2045 based on the SBTi, HKSTP is setting a pioneering example in the region. With more than 100 green tech ventures operating within its ecosystem, HKSTP is actively fostering a vibrant green technology innovation hub.

This dedication to driving green innovation is expected to position Hong Kong as an international centre for green technology and green finance, catalysing the city’s growth as a global leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship.

As part of the global effort to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, HKSTP’s commitment to achieving Net-Zero by 2045 through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) aligns with the latest climate science. The SBTi empowers businesses to set ambitious emissions reduction targets based on scientific evidence.

HKSTP’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible leadership, as it takes concrete steps to reduce its own carbon footprint and contribute to mitigating climate change. By aligning with the SBTi, HKSTP is demonstrating its dedication to global sustainability goals and supporting the urgent need for collective action to address climate change and safeguard our planet for future generations.

HKSTP is driving sustainability and innovation in Hong Kong’s I&T sector, poised to achieve net zero emissions by 2045. Through a vibrant green tech ecosystem and impactful decarbonisation initiatives, HKSTP sets a precedent for green innovation, emphasising the importance of acting sooner to address climate change.

HKSTP’s proactive approach serves as a model for other organisations, supporting global sustainability goals and a transition towards a more sustainable future. By leading the charge in green and climate tech innovation, HKSTP is contributing to Hong Kong’s sustainable development and inspiring others to prioritise sustainability in their operations and strategies.

The Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP expressed that technology and sustainability are intertwined, with sustainability driving technology development. HKSTP’s commitment to the SBTi net zero target is seen as a significant milestone in its decarbonisation roadmap, positioning HKSTP as a pioneer in green tech and climate solutions for Hong Kong and beyond.

The focus will be on equipping innovators and the younger generation with the necessary green mindsets and skillsets to address climate issues through R&D initiatives. HKSTP aims to collaborate with their park companies and partners to propel innovation towards a low-carbon future.

HKSTP, with over 100 green tech ventures, is committed to accelerating carbon reduction efforts ahead of target plans. As a leading ecosystem builder, HKSTP aims to advocate and drive sustainable climate I&T development, further positioning Hong Kong as an international green tech and green finance centre.
