Indonesia Fostering an Inclusive Digital Economy

Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi has taken concrete steps to strengthen commitments with Japan and India in the context of the three priority issues discussed by the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) of the G20 Presidency of India in 2023.

During the G20 Digital Economy Ministers’ Meeting (DEMM) held at Taj West End in Bengaluru, India, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi engaged in a series of highly significant bilateral meetings. He engaged in intensive discussions with Japan’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Taro Kono, accompanied by Minister of Internal Affairs Tsuge Yoshifumi. Minister Budi Arie Setiadi also had a constructive dialogue with India’s Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also hosted the event.

These concrete steps reflect a strong commitment to advancing the digital agenda on an international level, focusing on the priority issues outlined within the framework of the G20 Presidency of India in 2023. It is a crucial step in promoting international cooperation in driving inclusive and sustainable digital economic growth.

“In our role as a member of the G20 India Presidency Troika, we express our perspectives on strategic issues, including the three priority issues outlined in the DEWG agreement,” stated Budi.

At the event, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi elaborated that all participants were engaged in discussions concerning issues related to the digital economy. Moreover, during India’s presidency this year, he envisioned this meeting would strengthen close relationships among the G20 member countries and ultimately facilitate the alignment of views on the critical issues within the DEWG framework.

Furthermore, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi detailed the three central issues discussed at this meeting: Public Digital Infrastructure, enhancing digital capabilities to prepare the workforce, and relevant security aspects within the digital economy domain. He underscored that achieving a shared understanding and seeking solutions to these issues is essential in advancing the global digital economic ecosystem.

Additionally, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi emphasised India’s openness to collaborate with all G20 members. According to him, the bilateral meetings that took place on that day represented a valuable opportunity for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to exchange experiences and share best practices to foster inclusive and sustainable digital economic development.

“We are always eager for and consider it our duty to collaborate with all nations because each country possesses valuable experiences and best practices that we can mutually share. We see this as an opportunity to learn from various countries, hoping that the outcomes of these discussions will develop further,” Budi expressed.

Meanwhile, during this series of bilateral meetings, Minister Budi Arie Setiadi was accompanied by a delegation consisting of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mira Tayyiba, the Special Staff of Menkominfo, Sarwoto Atmosutarno, the Head of the International Institutional Centre, Ichwan Nasution, and the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, Eddy Wardoyo. This strong team collaboration underscores Indonesia’s sincere commitment to engaging in international discussions and leveraging opportunities for knowledge exchange to advance a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy.
