Indonesia’s Bandung Institute of Technology to train students in data analytics

Indonesia’s Bandung Institute of Technology to train students in data analytics

According to Jakarta
Globe
, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) signed a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) with data analytics software company TIBCO.

The MoU between ITB and TIBCO aims to expand data analytics
capabilities and knowledge as Indonesia pushes to improve the quality of its
higher education institutes.

"Digital technology is playing a major role in the
country’s economic development, but the growth is currently hindered by a wide
gap of data and technology skills. Close collaboration between universities and
companies in the industry is essential in imparting expertise," Dean of School of Business and Management of ITB
(SBM-ITB) Mr Sudarso Kaderi Wiryono said.

Today, digital businesses gain a competitive edge with consumers
when they are able to identify changes in customer behaviour and make timely
interventions or personalized offers at the right moment. To do so, businesses
are using various data analytics and visualization tools to understand
customers and predict their behaviour.

However, it is often difficult to visualize or apply
theoretical concepts of data analytics in a classroom setting.

As part of the MoU, the Palo Alto-based TIBCO will provide
technological skills to students enrolled at the SBM-ITB through workshops,
internships, guest lecturers, seminars, networking sessions and other practice-based
training. This will empower students with technological skills essential for
their careers after graduation.

"Our collaboration with ITB will provide students the
opportunity to apply these concepts in a practical manner. This will also
strengthen their ability to explore new business models and deepen their
understanding of the data analytics field, as well as the business world,” said
General Manager (Asia Pacific and Japan) of TIBCO Mr Erich Gerber, in the
company’s press
release
.

"Together with TIBCO, ITB will train and empower a pool
of talented and skilled graduates in the data analytics space, in turn allowing
Indonesian businesses to change how customers experience a product or service,"
said Dean of SBM-ITB.

TIBCO’s Connected Intelligence platform of solutions will be
made available for all SBM-ITB students. Those who select the elective will
receive hands-on practice with TIBCO tools and support for various data
analytic techniques to understand and predict customer behaviour.
