As part of the Regional Grants-in-Aid Programme, the science and technology (S&T) digital library and interactive multimedia audio-visual instruction were made available by DOST-3 in Central Luzon. The initiative is part of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) ongoing endeavour to encourage students to engage in online education through cutting-edge pedagogical resources.
Educators and students will have easier access to DOST’s interactive lessons and exercises, according to Regional DOST Director Julius Caesar Sicat. The platform for enhancing teaching and learning can be used without internet access or a standard electrical outlet. As the technology already includes pre-built K-12 modules, teachers will spend less time developing lectures.
“Similarly, maths and scientific simulation laboratory exercises are available on the system’s server to help build kids’ interest in S&T-related courses,” Sicat remarked in a statement while assisting the programme at the Plaridel Elementary School in Plaridel town, Bulacan province.
Science and Technology Academy and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks is the name of the digital S&T library created by the DOST Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) (STARBOOKS). STARBOOKS is a user-friendly database, accessible even when you don’t have an internet connection. It compiled information from books, journals, magazines, newspapers, theses, dissertations, and films on how to make a living have all been digitised and made available to students and educators in the field of science and technology.
A Philippine e-learning firm created the technology behind the interactive multimedia audio-visual teaching tool. Technology such as interactive e-learning and individualised e-school solutions are included to aid in raising academic achievement. Teachers can use the system’s built-in lessons aligned with the DepEd K-12 education programme to teach the country’s youth.
Digital initiatives have been taken worldwide to better the educational experience. For example, India unveiled a new online resource to help students prepare for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). As part of their CSR initiatives, one of the country’s top travel technology companies has helped make the NPTEL GATE portal available at no cost to students.
Among its many features is the most outstanding collection of free online courses in basic science, engineering, and several arts and social sciences branches. With this new portal, NPTEL hopes to give video answers, practise exams, and online support based on the GATE syllabus, all of which can be found in its current course contents on engineering and science subjects from its over 2,400-course portfolios.
Meanwhile, a course called “Digital Literacy and Computational Thinking” was created in Hong Kong. The course focuses on improving students’ digital literacy and expanding their understanding of cloud computing. The Lab Services Cloud Virtual Machine (VM) allows students at the University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to complete hands-on exercises using high-performance applications on their own devices, regardless of their device configuration, at any time and from any location. This class is meant to equip students with the essential data literacy and IT processing skills necessary for success in any modern workplace.
Thailand’s Digital Council for Economy and Society and the Office of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (NHSO) worked together to develop the content of the e-Learning course, with a particular emphasis on educating individuals on the best practices for safeguarding their data in light of Thailand’s rapidly expanding digital workforce. In this way, organisations and individuals will be able to use data in a way that does not infringe on the data subject’s privacy.
Vietnam has made parallel efforts to improve the level of digital literacy in that country. Community digital technology clubs have been formed to assist locals in gaining digital literacy as one of several initiatives undertaken.
