New AI solutions from HK government tech lab

The incubatees of Hong Kong’s Smart Government Innovation Lab have been able to sustain their releases of solutions amid COVID-19 uncertainty which continues to disrupt the world’s economies.

Recently, two firms under the agency launched solutions; these are now ready to be acquired by other firms, government agencies and academic institutions.

Solution 1 – Pixel Eye Vision-Based Fall Detection

Solution description

The firm’s AI can monitor what is happening at the sites. It is a solution with a surveillance, response, and warning system which turns everything the cameras see into valuable information for analysis.

It allows for prompt responses to be made during emergencies and easy access to controls in times when security is in questions as well.

The firm’s solution, therefore, has the following features that can aid in the aforementioned analysis and security:

  • Real-time: the solution can detect objects in real-time with low latency and high FPS
  • CCTV camera-based: it can connect to popular CCTV cameras directly without any extra hardware installation
  • Privacy protected: the solution masks personally identifiable information and will not store that information in the database
  • Multiple classes: it can detect different types of objects at once in the same image

Application Areas

The solution can be applied in the following areas:

  • City Management
  • Development
  • Education
  • Employment and Labour
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Housing
  • Population
  • Social Welfare

Technologies Used

The solution employs the following technologies:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Data Analytics
  • Deep Learning
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Predictive Analytics
  • Video Analytics

Use Case

Cameras provide useful information about people and environments, and their presence is becoming increasingly important in several everyday environments due to surveillance necessities.

Vision-based fall detection systems play a very important role in health care and assistance systems.

Pixel Eye using connected-components extracting the whole body features for combining our database information to detect positions and also falls.

Solution 2 – new workflow automation solution

Solution description

The workflow automation solution developed by the local firm KBQuest Hong Kong, helps users get rid of the inefficient processes, transforming manual, time-consuming tasks into automated processes that require only a few simple clicks to maximize time and efficiency.

The solution also pulls data from multiple sources and automatically generates customized documents in your choice of formats: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF.

More importantly, the solution enables users to analyze, optimize, and govern how their workflows are performing, identify patterns, and pinpoint and resolve new bottlenecks to drive process optimization.

Application Areas

The solution can be applied in the following areas:

  • Broadcasting

Technologies Used

The solution employs the following technologies:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Cloud Computing
  • Data Analytics
  • Robotic Process Automation

Use Case

Different bureaus and departments of the government receive numerous inquiries from the citizens every day. With the Intelligent Process Automation in our solution, it saves time and makes better use of talent when common Help Desk tasks are automated.

The solution can help to assign tickets to specific employees, tracking response metrics, and even accessing the support portal itself.

When critical information is automated and integrated, the required information is automatically captured and notifications are sent to keep requests moving along.

The system will also automatically assign an owner and a due date and prioritize or escalate overdue tickets. Integrating knowledge bases allows your team to provide faster and more accurate responses to the citizens.
