Philippine “Tech Trends” for ICT Development

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in the Philippines unveiled its new awareness programme on emerging technologies and disruptive innovations tagged as “Tech Trends.”

Participants can choose freely from the Tech Trends project’s seven tracks such as Data Analytics; Internet of Things (IoT); Blockchain; Artificial Intelligence; Cybersecurity; Cloud Computing; and the Gig Economy. Tech Trends was developed to help raise awareness and encourage discussions on the development of the ICT industry, according to Emmanuel “Manny” Rey Caintic, Acting Secretary, DICT.

This project is specially designed for self-driven and motivated individuals and teams who are interested to know about innovations and emerging ICTs. We are eager to provide you with relevant knowledge and skills to prepare you for jobs and opportunities in the Philippine ICT industry.

– Emmanuel “Manny” Rey Caintic, Acting Secretary, Department of Information and Communications Technology

Through a regular webinar series, “Tech Trends” strives to provide the public with free and accessible sources of knowledge, inspiration, and encouragement to engage in ICT industry activities. It will cover the current global technological scenario as well as the post-pandemic future of work, including technical trends in important countries, humanising the future of work, and the strategic benefits of flexible work arrangements.

Individuals and organisations must constantly educate themselves about technological disruptions, trends, problems, and opportunities to make better career, commercial, and institutional decisions. This will improve the participants’ technical abilities and knowledge, as well as their potential in the sector.

Furthermore, one of the Department’s top priorities is to create a National Cybersecurity Plan to address the urgent need to protect the country’s Critical Infostructures, Government Networks, Small Medium Enterprises, Large Businesses, Corporations and their supply chains and every Filipino who uses the internet.

The DICT encourages technical advances that are proven to be sustainable developments. This contributes to the continued construction of the nation’s digital infrastructure and ensures a place for the nation within the digital economy. These advancements may not only make life easier for Filipinos, but they may also open doors to new opportunities and result in the creation of additional employment prospects.

Sustainable innovation and PH economic recovery mobile app

The digital economy of the Philippines receives further assistance and promotion as the DICT, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the largest low-cost airline in Southeast Asia has recently collaborated to launch a mobile app.

This mobile app makes the technology that is used in travel, lifestyle, and financial services easier to comprehend, more accessible, and more flexible. The platform also provides a place for Philippine businesses, including small and medium enterprises, to collaborate with one another, accelerating the expansion of the industry and improving the firms’ ability to compete with one another.

The DICT is at the forefront in welcoming key players and enablers in crafting innovative ways to provide every Filipino access to vital ICT infostructure and services and ensure the sustainable growth of Philippine ICT-enabled industries.

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) has affected all sectors in the Philippines.  Functions of industries and industrial control systems are becoming increasingly reliant on technologies.

In line with these initiatives, the National Cybersecurity Strategy Framework, developed by DICT and its affiliated agency, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Centre (CICC), adapts to the new paradigm that will enable the adoption and implementation of Information Security Governance and Risk Management methodologies to be institutionalised and will offer the Philippine government a rigorous and systematic approach to safeguarding the security of their information infrastructure.
