To help parents adjust to the shift in the delivery of educational services, the provincial government virtually launched the ‘NEW NORMAL’ project, a press release has announced.

The programme was created in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Schools Division Office and the Quirino State University.

NEW NORMAL stands for nomenclature of efficient and work engaging parents under a new obligation of rekindling the magnum opus of active learning.

It is a series of webinar focusing on five modules:

  • The Basics of Effective Parenting
  • Understanding the Learners
  • Equipping Parents with Engaging Strategies and Approaches to Facilitate Learning
  • Acquainting the Parents with The New Normal
  • Suggesting Strategies on The Culture of Building Partnership Between Parents and Children

The Governor, Dax Cua, who initiated the project, said the series of webinars will focus on building competencies, enabling parents as academic tutors, and guiding them with the basic of online platforms on teaching methods.

Parents and guardians assume serious responsibility in the learning curve of a child. They must be equipped as they take on the task of being the teachers of their children at home, the governor said.

Furthermore, the Governor explained that not all parents are equipped with the tools necessary to guide young learners, and to help them better cope with the changing landscape of education, they must be  educated on how to teach and guide their children in their new classrooms, their homes.

The government must help its constituents adapt – whether it is working from home or learning from home, the innovative ways to cope with the new normal, he said.

Cua, who was a three-term congressman and now the president of the League of Provinces and Union of Local Authorities, said he wants all the local government units to embark on the same initiatives to assist the parents during the critical time when learning delivery takes new forms.

Meanwhile, the SDO Quirino has invited all interested parents to join the first day of the webinar featuring Module 1 on 15 June. The link will be posted in the Quirino Province, DepEd Tayo Quirino, and QSU pages.

DepEd is also partnering with the city government of Balanga as it prepares public elementary and high school students for the distant learning modalities this coming school year.

DepEd Balanga Schools Division Superintendent, Ronnie Mallari, said in an interview that the Mayor has extended his commitment to the project. He is considering all details and data the agency has provided him so he can decide how to properly address arising issues based on their recommendations.

On the online learning modality, Mallari assured that DepEd is continuously capacitating teachers through online training, while plans to provide equipment and internet connectivity is being finalised with the help of the city government.

For now, the department is doing a survey as to the data on a number of teachers who will be needing equipment.

Recently, the city government procured 80 laptops wherein 30 units were already distributed to all school heads, division chiefs, education program supervisors, and department heads.
