Selected schools in Malaysia to get smart digital health screening solution

With the reopening of schools nationwide on 24 June after a prolonged closure due to the Covid-19 outbreak, a Malaysian telecommunications company is deploying an innovative screening solution to five schools to assist in providing a safer environment for teaching and learning activities as well as ensuring the health and safety of students and teachers in the ‘new normal’.

The telecom, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), is installing its smart digital health screening solution, called TM ONE Predictive Analytics Screening Solution or ONE PASS.

ONE PASS also carries the Early Warning, Alert and Response System (EWAR) which is a state-of-the-art solution developed by the telecom’s innovation arm.

ONE PASS is a smart, contactless health screening and monitoring solution with real-time temperature updates at an accuracy to within +/- 0.3 degree Celsius for up to 100 persons a minute within the range of between 1 meter to 3 meters. This will enable school administrators to scan temperatures without contact in a fast and accurate manner.

The installation of ONE PASS at three schools – SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur; SMK Presint 16 (1), Putrajaya; and Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, Putrajaya has been completed while the installations for two more schools – Sekolah Menengah Sains Teluk Intan, Perak and Tahfiz – Ma’ahad An Noer, Janda Baik, Pahang are expected to be completed by 29 June 2020.

Through a recent collaboration between the telecom and Bangsar/Pudu District Education Office (PPDBP) for firm’s Future Skills programme, the telco via its research arm has installed its EWAR solution at 12 schools in the PPDBP area.

In addition, the schools also received 50 sets of 3D printed face shields, demonstrating the usage of TM 3Ducation 3D printing module which is part of the TM Future Skills programme.

Commenting on the initiative, the Vice President, Group Brand and Communication, of telecom stated that the firm shares the concerns of parents, teachers and the MOE on the health and safety of the nation’s children returning to school.

To kick start their efforts in assisting the education community to adapt to the ‘new normal’, the firm is implementing ONE PASS and EWAR at these selected schools.

This is part of the firm’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives that serve three pillars – Economic, Environment and Social – to benefit more Malaysians. The firm is embarking on this latest initiative for the education sector under the Social pillar.

The telecom expects the solutions to enable teachers to conduct teaching and learning activities as smooth as possible, whilst assuring parents on student health and safety. It will continue to expand the deployment to more schools.

The real-time digital solution includes a Visitor Management System (VMS), an employee/visitor management app developed in-house for self-declaration assessment and deployment of thermal camera and sensors to check body temperature before entering a building or premise.

VMS is capable of storing 25,000 user-profiles and allows for comprehensive on-premise tracking, along with open Application Programming Interface (API) that allows easy integration with other predictive analytics engines, Geographic Information System and contact tracing system. An analytics platform enables individual analysis and swift in-building people tracking from a centralised dashboard with integration into the schools’ attendance system.

This enables organisations to react promptly should any potential health risk arise, with real-time escalation to relevant emergency response teams and authorities.

In addition to the introduction ONE PASS and EWAR, the telecom recently handed over 150 sets of 3D printed face shields to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Paya Rumput in Melaka, one of its adopted schools under TM School Adoption programme.

The contribution also serves as good exposure to the students on how 3D printing can provide solutions to real-life problems.
