Thailand Extends Smart City Initiatives for Tourism and Aquaculture

#image_title

Thailand highlighted the growth and success of the Phuket Smart City project as an example of integrating security technologies. Pracha Asawathira, Director of the Southern Area, discussed how the interconnection information system helps the government’s endeavour to have complete insight while making decisions.

Employed appropriate technologies to help manage tourism safety, such as CCTV Smart Gate Face Recognition within the City Data Platform project, which has helped the government with insight for planning purposes in tourism zones. The project has established a partnership between the public and commercial sectors. It can be utilised as a model for other communities to maximise benefits and efficiency. It can also be customised to fit the context of the city.

A representative from a data analytics company discussed the function of Patong Municipality’s City Data Platform in many areas, such as the environment, well-being, transportation, and safety. It also shows how data may be analysed in multiple aspects to help drive the city’s data effort. To be utilised as basic information to promote the development of smart cities to achieve future sustainability.

Following that, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s (MDES) Audit and Evaluation Committee travels to the area of the forested mangrove fishing community enterprise, Koh Phrao, Phuket. The fishing community runs an innovative marine aquaculture cage measuring 3. 8 rai (6080 square metres) and producing significant products such as black salmon, white snapper, pearl mussels, lobsters, blue crabs, mussels, nemo fish, cichlids, and bunch-vine algae. It is also a knowledge dissemination centre for marine aquaculture in integrated cages.

DEPA supports the community by implementing a project to manage fish feed in smart cages, a control system for feeding and a commanding wireless controller with a helical gear feeding mechanism resulting in a steady amount of food. The community can observe and arrange real-time feedings and set the amount of food to be served each time. There is a mechanism to report feeding alerts via the line system to alert out of food and compute the amount delivered in advance.

The system may track historical feed graphs monthly, rearing cycles, and feed summaries. The project will assist the community in lowering the cost of hiring labour shortages due to the base’s relocation to a higher-paying service industry. It also makes more money as the quality and weight of the fish improve.

In this context, Jeerawan Boonperm, Chairman of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s Audit and Evaluation Committee, offered advice on designing the strategy for optimum advantage, reacting to public and private sector collaboration and being ready to drive the establishment of local technology-related policies.

Thailand Smart City project is ready to drive progress to be a part of the smart city to ensure that most people receive comprehensive benefits and provide advice on raising public awareness.

Last year, Thailand collaborated with network partners to provide a data set promoting the Liveable & Smart City agenda, which is focused on research and innovation. The country is developing an action plan to encourage the deployment of 5G technology to boost the ecosystem for commercial applications.

Network partners have formed the “Smart City Alliance Thailand” at all levels (Smart City Alliance Thailand). The alliance will be the driving force behind the liveable city centre and smart city agendas. TAMC also promotes educational procedures for developing liveable and smart cities to increase the country’s economy and reduce inequality.

The programme seeks to bridge the gap between academic institutions, government agencies, civil society, the community, the private sector, and appropriate partner mechanisms. The shareholders intend to assist one another by exchanging resources such as data, information, tools, equipment, and places, as well as fostering research on the development of the liveable centre and smart cities.
