Vietnam encourages Digital Transformation in Info & Comm

According to a press statement released by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), a wide range of telecommunications, information communications technologies, and solutions were introduced at the Vietnam ICT COMM and Telefilm 2019.

The international exhibition, which opened in Ho Chi Minh city earlier this week, was held by the MIC in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology. It drew the participation of more than 450 exhibitors from 25 countries and territories.

The exhibitors brought to the event products like broadcasting technology, decoding technology, 4G-LTE technology, big data, AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and e-government solutions, among others.

Local filmmakers that attended the event had the chance to access Industry 4.0 television, get updated with the latest television trends, as well as meet with potential partners.

The Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, in his opening remarks, said that apart from serving as a bridge to develop cooperative ties among domestic and foreign firms, the exhibition offered opportunities for them to exchange advanced technologies in telecommunications, information technologies, and television.

Several seminars were scheduled to be held within the framework of the event, including workshops on IT security – a strategic trend in 2019, the application of AI and blockchain in connecting markets, and online payments and smart start-ups in the Industry 4.0 era.

The country has been gearing up for the fourth industrial revolution. Earlier, OpenGov reported that in line with the Make in Vietnam mission, the country’s Minister said that there must be close cooperation among three specific groups of start-up stakeholders that create innovative technology products. Firstly, start-up technology firms, which leverage current technologies to develop new products or solutions for other companies. Secondly, giants in the field. And lastly, companies that work in other fields of commerce, services, real estates, and telecommunications but now intend to invest more heavily in technology.

The government wants to adopt new technology models to ready itself for potential challenges that this new era of technology might bring. It is willing to pilot new models like fintech, techno-taxi or the sandbox policy. At the beginning of 2019, the government agreed to experiment using a telecommunications account to pay for the goods of small value through Mobile Money despite a significant impact on the bank.

Vietnam also has a strong IT community in foreign countries, and that attracting them to start up their own business in Vietnam or contribute their part to the country’s tech firms will help foster growth.

The country recently decided to increase cooperation with Cambodia in the field of telecommunications. Cambodia has created conditions for Vietnam’s post, telecommunications, and IT enterprises to do business and succeed in Cambodia. In the postal sector, the two sides have implemented specific cooperation such as exchanging delegations and sharing experiences between Cambodia Post and Vietnam Post on the basis of a signed cooperation agreement in October 2017.
