Tailored government services gaining traction with Queenslanders

Queensland Government web pages have recorded millions of extra ‘visits’ over a 12-month period – with numbers expected to continue rising, according to Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy Leeanne Enoch.

Speaking at the AIIA (Australian Information Industry Association) Queensland: Navigating Digital Government Summit in Brisbane yesterday, Ms. Enoch (above photo) said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to making it easier for people and businesses to access information and services.

“Every day Queenslanders experience new digital services and opportunities, and this is changing their expectations of all organisations – government included,” Ms. Enoch said.

“Queenslanders have told us they want services that know them, understand them and come directly to them.”

Ms. Enoch said more than 400 services are available from qld.gov.au.

“We know they are popular because visits to this website increased from 33.4 million in 2015, to 52 million in 2016 – and this is likely to continue increasing in 2017,” Ms Enoch said.

“At Cyclone Debbie’s peak, more than 2.3 million Queensland Government web pages were being viewed per day by people wanting to know about things like flooded roads and recovery assistance.”

Ms. Enoch said the Starting a Café online pilot was one example of how the Palaszczuk Government is working with customers to tailor information and deliver a more personalised experience.

“For Queenslanders thinking about setting up a café business, this service personalises information on all the licences their new venture will need, what it costs and how long it will take,” she said.

Anthony Laurence of Florence Street Coffee at Wynnum welcomed government efforts to streamline the process and point out what is needed when starting a new business.

“The Starting a Café online information is specific and concise and saves having to ‘Ctrl-F’ your way through hundreds of pages of regulations, hoping you’re looking in the right place for answers,” he said.

Ms. Enoch said the online Seniors concessions service for 65 year olds was also popular, while the Business Grants and Assistance Finder was helping businesses spend less time searching and more time growing their business.
