Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief
of the Dubai Police, has approved
a Strategic Plan (2018-31) for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Department
at the Dubai Police.
This is in line with the UAE
Strategy for artificial intelligence, launched by His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE
and Ruler of Dubai, and in accordance with Dubai 2021 Plan. The UAE AI strategy
is part of the UAE
Centennial 2071 objectives.
Brigadier Khaled Nasser Al Razzouqi, Director of the
Artificial Intelligence Department, said that the general department of smart
services will now be called the general department of artificial intelligence.
Dubai Police aims to develop the best techniques and AI
tools that serve the needs of the people, locally and globally.
Al Razzouqi said that the AI strategic plan 2018-2031
focuses on achieving targets like 'Delight the Society' through providing
future policing services easily to the public; and making 'Dubai a Safe City'
through the use of AI systems.
The AI strategic plan will cover community service centres
and its clients; criminal investigation; road security; disaster management and
forensics. The plan seeks to develop AI-assisted customer service centres,
smart police stations in different regions, as well as "walk in" and
"drive through" centres having robots.
Al Razzouqi added that the strategic plan also seeks to
integrate AI techniques into criminal investigation in the field of forensic
work, and in police operations. They will be used for forecasting crime, for crowd
management and to enhance traffic safety and road security. The AI techniques
will also be utilised in crisis and disaster management.
AI techniques are expected to ensure accuracy and speedy
responses while responding to customers communicating in different languages.
Officials will be equipped with skills to use AI systems in
all police departments.
