MIA Digital Technology Blueprint to prepare Malaysian accountants for digital economy

The Malaysian Institute of Accountants
(MIA) has launched its MIA Digital Technology Blueprint in order to help the
accountants manage widespread changes arising from the digital economy and
Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).

According to the announcement
made by Bernama,
the launch was held during MIA’s inaugural AccTech Conference 2018. Both the
blueprint and the conference are part of MIA’s ongoing digital initiatives as
it seeks to prepare the Malaysian accountancy profession for the future as well
as provide more value to the ecosystem.

MIA is the national accountancy body that
regulate, develops, supports and enhances the integrity, status and interests
of the profession in Malaysia. It was established under the Accountants
Act 1967
. MIA works closely alongside businesses allowing it to
connect its members to an unmatched range of information resources, events, and
professional development and networking opportunities.

MIA CEO Dr Nurmazilah Dato’ Mahzan
explained, during her welcome remarks at the conference, that 5 driving
principles outline the MIA Digital Technology Blueprint 2018-2023. The 5
principles that will serve as guide for Malaysian accountants so that they can
respond appropriately to digital technology are: assessing digital technology
trends; identifying capabilities; harnessing digital technology; funding; and

The role of MIA in supporting its members
in the 5 principles is also set out in the Blueprint. Its role involves
educating and upskilling MIA members and accountants in Malaysia on emerging
core areas such as big data analytics, cloud computing, automation and
artificial intelligence.

MIA President Encik Salihin Abang expressed
confidence that the Blueprint would help MIA members and accountants in Malaysia
to adopt the technologies that suit their business, large or small, during his special
address at the MIA AccTech Conference 2018.

The Blueprint was prepared by the MIA
technical team with inputs and guidance from MIA’s Digital Economy Task Force.

International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) President Ms Rachel Grimes attended the MIA AccTech
Conference 2018 as its guest of honour. Ms Grimes commended MIA, a member body
of IFAC, its efforts to prepare accountants in Malaysia for the digital economy
and IR4.0. 

Aside from that, Ms Grimes also discussed
during her keynote address about IFAC’s effortsIntelligence, which include Robotics,
Blockchain, Cybersecurity and Communications, and Data Analytics.

400 delegates were in attendance at the
conference, which featured 3 plenaries and 6 breakout sessions. MIA thanked the
participants and the people behind the success of the MIA AccTech Conference
2018. They are the speakers, MIA’s Digital Economy Task Force, MIA’s Technology
