Universitas Gadjah Mada’s E-Money makes bike-sharing easy

Universitas Gadjah Mada’s E-Money makes bike-sharing easy

For the past year, a number of bikes
bearing the name Boseh can be seen parked on the corner of the Cibeunying Park
in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. This is among the many other spots in
Bandung where parked bikes have been observed.

According to the announcement
made by the Universitas
Gadjah Mada
(UGM), these bike-sharing facilities were made possible
by the municipal government of Bandung. The bikes are labelled with Boseh, which
actually stands for Bike on Street Everybody Happy.

Bike-sharing is a mode of transportation
for short-distance travel. Special stations are provided for picking up
bicycles and returning them at other stations that are closest to the user’s
destination.

These bikes make use of a bike-sharing
facility that is integrated with an E-Money system. For those who are
interested to loan the bikes for use, they need to make use of a smart card to
pay.

UGM’s tech company, PT. Aino Indonesia, is
the one responsible for processing the payments made through this smart card. All
Boseh bike stations are equipped with the E-Money facility developed by the
company.

There are currently 200 bike units that are
parked in 20 bike stations all over Bandung. To use any of the bikes, people
just need to visit a registration kiosk to create a member card, in the form of
a smart card, which they can immediately use to utilise the bike-sharing
facility.

PT. Aino Indonesia Director Syafri Yuzal
explained to reporters in Cibeunying, Bandung on 29 July 2018, that their
system supports the National Non-Cash Movement. This enables users to pay for
the bike rental without putting out cash.
