Indonesia utilises digital tech for the younger generation

A new app was launched recently, according to a recent report, which aims to help millennial visitors gain greater insight into the art of Indonesian puppetry.

By scanning a barcode, the user will be able to access the Museum Wayang (puppet museum) smartphone application.

It is a collaborative project between the Jakarta provincial administration and Bank Indonesia (BI) that seeks to digitalise the museum as well as improve the tourism in Jakarta.

The application works by scanning a QR code found on the lower right corner of each postcard that the visitors of the museum will receive.

Each visitor will get 12 postcards with different types of puppets printed on them. The QR code can be scanned using either an Android smartphone or iPhone.

The app is free to use and is available for download by Android users so that they will be able to scan the QR code.

Meanwhile, iPhone users can scan the QR code directly in order to be connected to the site that contains information and stories about Indonesian puppets.

This digital feature was created as a pilot project by the Jakarta provincial administration, with the goal of digitalising 12 other museums.

The Jakarta Representative Office Head of the Bank of Indonesia described the integration of the apps information system as fast, easy and environmentally friendly.

This QR code is part of a 3A strategy, in particular the ‘amenity’ point. It runs on simple technology with outstanding functions allowing users to access information quickly.

Moreover, this will not be producing waste as it is also paperless.

Another digital technology that was recently launched was Tanya Marlo (Ask Marlo), which is an online chat platform integrated with a messaging app that seeks to provide information on HIV and AIDS.

According to a recent report, the platform is a collaborative project by The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Indonesia with Nimbly Technologies and Botika.

New ways of interacting with the younger generation is achievable by utilising digital technology.

Tanya Marlo is a friend that a person can talk to and most importantly, a friend who can be a loyal supporter.

The platform aims to provide a space for the public, especially young people, who are embarrassed and afraid to ask about HIV and AIDS.

There are four educational and informative features included in the platform.

The first one is called the Info HIV, which contains extensive information about HIV and AIDS delivered through articles, infographics, videos and comparison of myths and facts.

The second feature is made up of games that challenge a person’s knowledge and understanding of HIV and AIDS through simple questions.

The consultation feature, meanwhile, gives those, who need advice or want to know about treatment, access to trusted counsellors.

The fourth and final feature is the HIV test feature. This is convenient for anyone who needs information on clinics that provide HIV testing services, including location, procedures and hours of operation.

Most importantly, the platform provides guaranteed confidentiality and comfort for every user.

There are still many people who do not have access to information regarding HIV and AIDS because they are afraid and do not dare speak to older people.  This application addresses that problem.
