Online learning ‘app’-ortunity for budding digital entrepreneurs

Western Australia’s Curtin University will be providing budding digital entrepreneurs across the globe an opportunity to launch their very own iOS app through its latest Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).

According to a recent press release, the free, seven-week MOOC, will be delivered through an MOOC provider and online learning platform.

3 Courses

It is the first of three professional courses designed to teach online learners how to design and build an iOS app using the multinational tech company’s Swift programming language.

The first course is called ‘Build your very first iOS app’. It will begin on 30 April and is currently open for enrolments.

The course will run on a self-paced mode so participants can complete the course at any time.

The two other courses will begin in the second half of the year and the last quarter of the year.

The second course is called, ‘Work with augmented reality and the web’, which will start on 30 July 2019.

The third course is called, “Create an iOS app from start to finish’, will commence on 8 October 2019.

The program’s three courses correspond to the three stages that cover the following:

  1. Tools and techniques needed to build an app
  2. How to integrate augmented reality into iOS apps
  3. Step-by-step guide from start to finish including preparing an app for the App Store

To successfully complete this program, participants will need access to an Apple Mac computer or laptop capable of running macOS10.14 and Xcode 10.

Benefits of the Program

According to the Course Coordinator from the University’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, the MOOC offered beginners the opportunity to learn coding language and build a functioning app.

It will help educate the programmers of tomorrow, regardless of their skill level. They will be able to build their very first app in an easy and accessible way through its online delivery and simplicity.

Technology is increasingly becoming a greater part of everyone’s lives and this course will provide the tools, knowledge and essential skills for online learners to build an app and take their business ideas into the digital age.

Online education, according to the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Academic, continues to evolve and innovate in order to guarantee that the next generation capitalised on the latest developments available.

She added that the new online program is innovative and relevant to people all over the globe, who may be interested in turning their business or technology ideas into a functioning app.

The relationship with the online learning platform and MOOC provider allows the University to offer greater flexibility to online learners.

The University is able to present new and innovative ways for online learners to learn new skills and develop their existing qualifications.
