The University of Indonesia Hospital has officially launched the high-tech Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab), which will provide superior service in neuro-cardiovascular treatments.
According to a recent press release, the Cath Lab is a diagnostic medical treatment service tool, which detects the narrowing or the blockage of the heart or coronary arteries.
In addition, it is also used to handle neurological disease cases such as stroke, radiology and oncology.
Apart from all of these, the device also aids cardiologists as they figure out the appropriate action to do on their patients: a heart ring installation, intervention with a balloon, or bypass surgery.
Hopefully, the diagnostic tool, which is now considered as one of the leading facilities in the hospital, will serve the public with its benefits and advantages.
The hospital aims for an optimisation of the services provided for patients with heart diseases with the launch of the tool.
Additionally, they are aiming for a reduction in the number of deaths caused by coronary heart disease, which is one of the highest causes of death not only in Indonesia, but also around the world.
Benefits and advantages
A plethora of advantages brought forth by the Lab in different fields was enumerated. These are:
- Heart and Blood Vessels
The Clarity IQ system is the most sophisticated version and can produce the best quality images using the lowest radiation dose. This, therefore, makes it safe for patients.
It is capable of producing a 3D version of an image of the blood vessels, which are found in the heart.
Expert Swing is a feature that can pinpoint the position of the heart and blood vessels from various directions in detail.
This feature can minimise the use of contrast and radiation doses, making it more comfortable for patients.
- Cerebral
It has 2 detectors (biplane), with a size of 15 inches, in order to capture the image in the head region simultaneously, without being obstructed by the patient’s shoulder.
Furthermore, it can be used to assess whether the coiling therapy done to patients with aneurysm was successful or not. The Aneurysm Flow feature can display the blood flow before and after the therapy.
It is also equipped with the VasoCT feature, which allows display images that are similar to a CT-Scan, and an MR/CT Roadmap feature, which shows blood vessels from previous CT / MRI.
- Oncology
The Xperguide and Emboguide features facilitate the use of biopsy needles and address the feeding vessel for tumours.
This is very useful in the treatment of the TransArterial Chemo Embolization (TACE) method.
The hospital held a series of Coronary Heart Disease Risk Screening activities for the general public, free of charge, in line with the launch of the Cath Lab.
