Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine acknowledges the significance of technology in advancing veterinary practices and recently organised a Veterinary Medicine conference to raise awareness about its role in the industry.

Veterinary medicine, known as veterinary science, is a specialised medical field that focuses on safeguarding the health of both domestic and wild animals. Its primary objectives include disease prevention, control, diagnosis, and treatment. Additionally, veterinary medicine plays a crucial role in preventing the transmission of animal diseases to humans.

Veterinarians play a crucial role in ensuring a safe food supply by monitoring and preserving the health of animals used for food production. As with many other industries, veterinary medicine continuously adapts and advances alongside technological developments. From cutting-edge diagnostic tools to innovative treatment methods, veterinarians leverage modern technology to enhance their disease detection, prevention, and treatment capabilities.

Professor Bandit Tengjaroenkul, an academic with a PhD in Veterinary Medicine and the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Khon Kaen University, said significant importance is attached to technologies and innovations related to global animal health. These advancements play a pivotal role in promoting the well-being of animals, safeguarding human health, and fostering sustainable agriculture practices.

The rapid advancement of technologies and innovations has ushered in a new era of progress in animal health, revolutionising how we care for and interact with animals worldwide. These cutting-edge developments encompass various applications, from animal medicine and farming practices to disease diagnostics, treatment methodologies, and overall animal well-being.

Professor Tengjaroenkul added that in the realm of animal medicine, groundbreaking advancements have empowered veterinarians and researchers with powerful tools to diagnose and treat various ailments more effectively and compassionately. High-precision imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), offer detailed insights into animals’ internal structures and organs, enabling early detection of diseases and prompt intervention.

Additionally, genetic technologies have unveiled new possibilities for understanding the genetic makeup of animals, unlocking crucial information about their susceptibility to certain diseases and inherited conditions. This knowledge paves the way for targeted breeding programmes to improve animal populations’ overall health and resilience.

Furthermore, regenerative medicine, an emerging field in veterinary science, explores the potential of stem cells and tissue engineering to regenerate damaged tissues and organs in animals, providing a new ray of hope for those suffering from chronic or severe medical conditions.

Beyond the scope of medical interventions, the application of advanced technologies has also redefined animal raising and farming practices. Automated feeding systems, smart sensors, and precision agriculture have enhanced efficiency and sustainability in animal agriculture, optimising nutrition and environmental conditions for improved animal health and productivity.

Professor Tengjaroenkul highlighted that successfully implementing these technologies relies on collective effort and collaboration among various stakeholders, including researchers, veterinarians, policy administrators, and international organisations. That is why Khon Kaen held the conference to foster knowledge exchange, cooperation, and resource allocation from respective experiences and knowledge in veterinary medicine globally.

Assoc Prof Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, believed that the International Conference could contribute significantly to the progress of technologies and methodologies that enhance global access to animal health and welfare.

“Through cutting-edge research, innovative practices, and the utilisation of advanced technologies, the conference seeks to propel veterinary medicine into the future, surpassing existing limitations, and generating positive impacts on animals worldwide,” he said.
