Information may be shared quickly and effectively with the use of QR codes. Users may scan the code with their smartphones to access websites, contact information, product details, event information, and more without having to manually enter any data.

Ma Jilin, 79, a renowned inheritor of intangible cultural assets in Deqing County, Zhejiang Province, has cleverly woven a bamboo QR code as a tribute to the blending of history and technology. This exquisite design, a remarkable fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary connectivity, enables people to scan and participate in the virtual torch relay for the next Asian Games.

Ma set out on a careful quest to weave a bamboo QR code that could be quickly scanned. He had to pay close attention to the intricate details of the QR code’s design to make sure it worked properly. He carefully examined the design to ensure that it could be scanned and saw how ancient knowledge and modern needs converged.

Mistakes are common in the world of invention. Ma noted that a new QR code had to be created because the first one created for the Asian Games’ online torch relay did not work as expected. He took on the problem with determination to make sure his bamboo invention enabled digital participation in an effortless manner.

The distinctive bamboo weaving technique of the Ma family has been developed over many generations, culminating in Huzhou’s classification of it as an intangible cultural asset in 2019. This workmanship is much more than just a creative endeavour for Ma, it is a commitment to upholding his ancestors’ legacy.

The woven bamboo QR code symbolises a deep relationship to the upcoming Asian Games to be hosted by China. This will take place in six cities across the Zhejiang province, including Hangzhou, from September 23 to October 8. Ma, who lives in Deqing, the centre of the games’ activities, regards it as an honour to welcome the important occasion and preserve the legacy of traditional handicrafts.

The narrative of the bamboo QR code represents the peaceful coexistence of tradition and progress as technology develops and modernisation reshapes the landscape. This interaction captures the spirit of the Asian Games, an event where ancient customs and modern marvels come together. Ma’s creation serves as a poignant reminder that honouring the past can harmoniously complement the path into the future during the dynamic transformation.

The bamboo QR code represents the past and present that are brought together, and the torch relay serves as a bridge that connects people from different eras and locations. This artistic achievement is proof of the enduring value of workmanship and the bringing-people-together potential of a common international holiday. Also, the bamboo QR code captures the spirit of innovation and respect for tradition.

China believes that through digital innovation, the upcoming Asian Games have the potential to redefine engagement. The event aspires to effortlessly connect a worldwide audience with technology at its centre. Fans and competitors can explore the core of the Games through interactive platforms, getting access to in-the-moment updates, virtual experiences, and a variety of content.

Digital involvement promises to heighten the thrill of the Asian Games like never before, transcending geographic borders and bringing fans together in a shared celebration of sportsmanship and culture. This includes immersive virtual tours as well as rapid access to results and athlete stories.
