The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has spurred Thailand to accelerate the rollout of fifth-generation technologies (5G). This initiative has positioned Thailand as a pioneer within the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations, being the inaugural country to introduce operational commercial 5G services.

Considering these circumstances, Mr Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), presided over a meeting aimed at overseeing and advancing key initiatives of the utilisation of 700 MHz waves, the progression of 5G technology, and the advancement of the 26GHz projects.

The focal point of this gathering was to enhance the growth and evolution of the digital industry, aligning with the vision of propelling the nation forward into the era of Thailand 4.0. In this pursuit, pertinent agencies and stakeholders participated actively in the session, which took place within the M

As of the latest statistics revealed in May 2023, it was observed that one of the frontrunners in Thailand emerged to provide the most robust 5G availability within the technological landscape of Thailand. Remarkably, users could access a stable 5G connection for an impressive 28.7% of their usage time.

5G connectivity has marked a significant milestone in Thailand’s technological progression. While still relatively nascent, this advanced connectivity option has revolutionised the digital landscape, promising faster speeds, lower latency, and greater bandwidth capacity.

Though noteworthy, the current 5G coverage is expected to undergo further expansion and enhancement in the foreseeable future. It signifies a promising trajectory for adopting and integrating 5G technology globally, positioning Thailand to tap into its full potential as a technological frontrunner on the global stage.

Looking at the previous strides, Thailand’s government also encourages businesses to deploy the 5G to enhance commerce. Phuchaphong Nodthaisong, the Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Committee, also mentioned that it is vital to stimulate the establishment of high-performance 5G networks globally and promote investments to expand service capabilities. The progression of the digital economy through the utilisation of 5G technology takes centre stage, with a primary focus on fostering the growth of the nation’s core sectors and targeted industries.

Leveraging the capabilities of 5G technology to elevate the quality of life for individuals stands as a significant contribution towards crafting a society of exceptional quality while simultaneously working to bridge the gaps that stem from uneven access to governmental services across various domains. Crafting a digital ecosystem that sets the stage for the integration of 5G technologies plays a crucial role in creating an environment well-equipped for the eventual implementation of 5G technologies. This endeavour aims to prepare all industries for the forthcoming commercial deployment of 5G technology.

Furthermore, Thailand’s government has utilised 5G to establish Smart Cities. Puchphong Nodthaisong, Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (NESDB), explained that employing 5G technology to improve the well-being of individuals, consequently playing a role in establishing a society of exceptional standards and eradicating inequalities stemming from uneven access to government services across various domains. Fostering the growth of a digital ecosystem to cultivate an environment primed for the integration of 5G technologies aimed at encouraging all sectors to be equipped for the forthcoming commercial adoption of 5G technology.

Hence, as a minister, Mr Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn has taken significant measures to proceed with the 5G implementation in Thailand. By advancing the propelling of 5G, Mr Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn believes that embracing this cutting-edge technology will enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure and propel Thailand towards greater economic growth and technological innovation.

He envisions a future where 5G’s transformative potential is harnessed to empower industries, improve public services, and elevate the overall quality of life for the citizens of Thailand. With a steadfast commitment to fostering an environment conducive to 5G development, Mr Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn seeks to position Thailand as a leader in the global digital landscape, where connectivity is seamless, opportunities are boundless, and progress is relentless.
