Indonesia Fostering International Collaboration and Cybersecurity

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Since the emergence of COVID-19 in 2020-2021, many countries have undergone significant changes and challenges. The pandemic has had a profound impact on public health, economies, and daily life around the world. Nations have implemented various measures to combat the spread of the virus, including lockdowns, social distancing, mask mandates, and vaccination campaigns.

It is paramount to convene a diplomatic forum where nations unite to provide mutual support and cooperation. In an increasingly interconnected world, diplomatic forums are vital for fostering international relations, addressing global challenges, and advancing common interests.

These forums facilitate open dialogues among nations, allowing them to exchange ideas, concerns, and perspectives on critical issues such as peace and security, economic development, climate change, and public health. Through diplomatic discussions and negotiations, countries can seek common ground, build consensus, and work collectively to solve complex global problems.

Tomorrow, Indonesia will gear up to host the Archipelagic and Island States High-Level Conference (AIS Forum) in Bali, starting from October 10-11, 2023. This conference is expected to be attended by representatives from 51 island and archipelagic nations and various international organisations.

The National Cyber and Crypto Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BSSN) has been tasked with ensuring the security and smooth operation of the AIS Forum. BSSN will collaborate and synergise with stakeholders to address cybersecurity and cryptographic aspects of this international gathering.

Ariandi Putra, the spokesperson for BSSN, stated that their institution has established a cybersecurity and cryptographic security task force to ensure the preparation and execution of the AIS Forum 2023 in Bali.

The comprehensive security task force that has been assembled holds a primary objective: to enhance and optimise the role of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) in cybersecurity and cryptographic security. This mission extends to both the lead-up to and the duration of the AIS Forum 2023, a significant international event set to take place in the beautiful locale of Bali.

Ariandi, the spokesperson for BSSN, shed light on the intricacies of the security measures put in place for the AIS Forum 2023, drawing parallels to similar efforts undertaken during two significant summits— the G20 Summit in Bali and the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo and Jakarta. These past successes are a blueprint for the meticulous planning and execution of cybersecurity and cryptographic security at the forthcoming AIS Forum.

The security arrangements for the AIS Forum 2023 are underpinned by a preventive approach, highlighting the importance of anticipating potential threats and mitigating them effectively. Collaboration is a cornerstone of these security efforts, with close coordination between stakeholders, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and various ministries and agencies. This collaborative approach ensures a comprehensive and unified response to any security challenges that may arise.

The overarching theme of AIS Forum 2023, “Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future,” encapsulates the core objectives of this international gathering. The conference agenda is poised to delve into three pivotal areas of focus. First and foremost, it aims to explore and advance the concept of blue economic development, recognising the vital role of oceans in the global economy. Secondly, it seeks to address the pressing challenges posed by climate change, emphasising solutions and strategies for mitigating its impact. Lastly, the conference endeavours to strengthen the bonds of solidarity among nations with islands and archipelagos, recognising their unique challenges and opportunities on the global stage.

The security preparations for the AIS Forum 2023 are a testament to the commitment of BSSN and its partners to ensuring the safety and success of this international event. The comprehensive security preparations put in place for the AIS Forum 2023 stand as a resounding testament to the unwavering dedication and commitment of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and its collaborative partners.

Their collective resolve is firmly directed towards safeguarding the well-being of this international event. This commitment underscores the importance of ensuring that the AIS Forum 2023 meets its objectives and serves as an example of effective security measures and collaborative efforts on the global stage.
