Envisioning the Future of Education in Thailand

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The development of education through digital transformation is a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach to enhancing the educational landscape by leveraging the power of digital technologies. This transformative process aims to bridge the digital divide, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their socio-economic background, have equal access to quality education and the digital tools needed to thrive in today’s digitalised world. ‘

Thailand’s Khon Kaen University (KKU) is dedicated to upgrading its education with digital technology. KKU is steadfast in delivering an inclusive, technology-centered education, geared to prepare students for the demands of the digital era. Through collaborations with industry pioneers, the university is resolutely focused on empowering students with the essential skills and knowledge vital for success in a digital landscape.

In alignment with this vision, KKU showcased its commitment during the 60th-anniversary celebrations by hosting speakers from the United States, Singapore and Finland as part of the Education Transformation Project.

These experts shared their experiences and innovative ideas, aiming to propel KKU’s transformation in diverse fields such as health sciences, technological sciences, humanities, and social sciences.

“If we base ourselves on economic thinking strategy, then the market of the university has two key parts: giving the degree certificate to learners and producing bodies of knowledge from research work,” said Dr Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of Khon Kaen University.

The three main goals of both sections are actual utilisation, acceptance demonstration, and confidence building. “But as we can see from other universities across the nation, each university has unique product attributes when we examine the mechanics of supply and demand,” added Dr Narongchai. As a result, the university’s duties must adapt throughout time to the changing demands of students, the social context, and the future.

Moreover, the Faculty of Education KKU is at the forefront of education transformation, embracing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionise teaching and learning. With a clear vision for the future, the faculty has launched the “Future of Teacher” programme, designed to equip educators with the skills and mindset necessary to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of education. This transformative programme goes beyond traditional teacher training, fostering a deep understanding of AI’s potential to enhance pedagogical practices.

Future teachers will gain hands-on experience integrating AI tools into their classrooms, personalised learning, and assessment strategies. This AI-powered education will empower them to become catalysts for change, shaping the future of learning at KKU and beyond.

The “Future of Teacher” programme is not merely a one-off initiative but represents a broader commitment to holistic education transformation at KKU. The Faculty of Education is actively collaborating with other faculties to develop interdisciplinary programmes that emphasise human-centred education. This collaborative approach ensures that KKU graduates are not only technologically savvy but also possess the empathy, creativity, and critical thinking skills essential for success in the future world.

Dr Narongchai concluded that the transformation of education through digital technology is the right choice to be a catalyst for change and innovation in KKU and beyond. He emphasised that AI, in particular, holds the potential to revolutionise teaching and learning, enabling educators to personalise instruction, provide real-time feedback, and create learning experiences.

He envisions a future where AI empowers educators worldwide to create equitable and inclusive learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of all students. By embracing AI and fostering a culture of innovation, KKU can lead the way in shaping the future of education, making it more accessible, personalised, and effective for all learners.
