As a country committed to becoming a developed and competitive nation in the digital era, the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) launched the Indonesia Digital Vision (VID) 2045 in an effort to support the realisation of the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision, one of which is the target of Indonesia becoming the fifth strongest economy in the world.

Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said that the focus is on the productive and targeted use of digital technology. VID 2045 is designed to present concrete strategies that can support the achievement of long-term national targets.

In this context, the use of digital technology is considered the key to advancing various sectors. Through the integration of digital technology, the government envisions improving efficiency, productivity, and innovation in various fields. By highlighting this aspect, VID 2045 provides clear and targeted guidance for facing the challenges of the future.

VID 2045 is a long-term planning concept in the digital field to orchestrate stakeholder interests with a sectoral and territorial perspective. In this case, VID 2045 is compiled to be a common reference for all stakeholders consisting of the government, the private sector, academics, and the community regarding the national vision and strategy in the field of digital.

The Minister of Communication and Information highlighted that the Indonesia Vision 2045 (VID 2045) has been designed by taking into account the development priorities listed in various strategic documents in the field of digital. The main approaches applied in the preparation of VID 2045 cover three key aspects, namely ecosystem, sectoral, and territorial approaches.

Within the framework of the ecosystem approach, VID 2045 aims to create an environment that supports the comprehensive development of digital. This involves collaboration between the government, the private sector, academics, and the community to create a strong and sustainable digital ecosystem.

The sectoral approach in VID 2045 emphasises the development of special sectors that have a major impact on digital progress. The Minister of Communication and Information emphasised the importance of collaboration between more than 50 institutions involved, including ministries/agencies, associations, academics, and the private sector. This mutual assistance is directed to align the steps of digital development planning to achieve the target within the next 20 years.

The territorial approach in VID 2045 focuses on the equitable development of digital throughout Indonesia. By involving relevant parties at the local level, VID 2045 strives to ensure that the benefits of digital development can be felt evenly in various regions.

As the initiator of the preparation of VID 2045, Kemenkominfo emphasises broad synergy involving various stakeholders to achieve this ambitious goal. By involving more than 50 institutions, these steps reflect the commitment to bringing positive change to Indonesia’s digital development over the next two decades.

“The next step is how the implementation plan can be carried out synergistically and collaboratively. I hope that this VID 2045 can be a reference for all stakeholders in making and implementing various policies that are aimed at realising and succeeding Indonesia’s digital transformation,” said Minister Budi.

On the same occasion, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Nezar Patria said that VID 2045 could simplify various plans related to digital technology that various ministries, agencies have launched, and even the private sector before. This is necessary considering that the digital sector plays a large role in the economy of a country.

In the last ten years, Nezar said the digital sector grew 2.5 times faster than the non-digital sector and contributed about 15% of the total global gross domestic product (GDP). Digital economy real value added grew at an average annual rate of 6.8% per year from 2006 to 2018, compared to 1.7% growth in the overall economy. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, digital transformation is estimated to be able to boost national economic growth and grow to 6.2% in 2045.

“We have heard so many master plans, blueprints and roadmap documents being launched to respond to the development of digital technology, but generally they touch on the same elements, generally about infrastructure, human resources, business or economy, and government. For that reason, there needs to be VID 2045 to align everything to be synergistic,” Nezar concluded.

The Ministry of Communication and Information believes that in the future, VID 2045 is envisioned to serve as a comprehensive reference for stakeholders, fostering a synergistic and collaborative environment. Anticipating a transformative role, VID 2045 is poised to streamline digital initiatives, ensuring their alignment with national goals and sustained economic progress.
