Professor Wisit Wisitsaratha, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, has presided over significant strides discussed regarding developing a digital workforce. This meeting, designated as No. 1/2024, gathered critical figures in the digital landscape, including Mr Phuchapong Nodthaisong, Secretary-General of the Digital Economy and Society Committee, and Miss Ployrawee Krirkphankul, Director of the Digital Economy Driving Division at the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (NCDC).

Representatives from various agencies under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, such as the National Statistical Office, Meteorological Department, Electronic Transactions Development Agency, and the Digital Economy Promotion Agency, actively participated.

The primary focus of this meeting was to propel the development of a digital workforce within the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. To ensure clarity and precision, the discussions revolved around guidelines for enhancing digital skills among government employees. A comprehensive framework outlining the transfer of competencies essential for cultivating digital skills among civil servants and government personnel was presented. The meeting also delved into creating a dedicated learning channel designed to foster the development of digital competencies and skills specifically tailored for government personnel.

One of the key highlights was the consideration of proposals for the initial phase of guidelines aimed at developing a digital workforce in the public sector. This phase, marked as Phase 1, is poised to lay the foundation for the overarching strategy to equip government employees with the necessary digital acumen. The proposals encompass a strategic roadmap to ensure a systematic and effective transition towards a digitally adept public sector.

The Ministry’s commitment to advancing the digital workforce aligns with the broader global trends in the digital transformation landscape. As societies increasingly rely on digital technologies for various aspects of daily life, the demand for a skilled digital workforce becomes paramount. The initiatives discussed in this meeting reflect a proactive approach to addressing this need by fostering a culture of digital competence within the government.

In this era of rapid technological evolution, the importance of a digitally literate workforce cannot be overstated. The proposed framework aims to provide government employees with essential digital skills and instil a mindset that embraces digital innovation. By creating a conducive learning environment and leveraging cutting-edge technologies, the Ministry endeavours to position itself as a leader in digital workforce development.

Further, utilising an electronic system for this meeting symbolises a commitment to embracing digital tools for efficient collaboration and decision-making. This echoes the broader theme of the meeting, emphasising the integration of digital technologies into the fabric of government operations. Such initiatives streamline processes and testify to the Ministry’s dedication to walking the talk in the digital realm.

As this pivotal meeting sets the stage for developing a digital workforce in the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, it underscores the imperative for governments worldwide to actively adapt to the digital age. The proposed guidelines and frameworks emanating from this meeting represent a blueprint for other governmental bodies seeking to enhance their digital capabilities.

The digital future beckons, and the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing a skilled and adaptable workforce positions it as a trailblazer in the digital revolution. Thailand strives to build a solid foundation to realise its digital transformation vision by prioritising enhancing workforce skills. It makes the country more prepared to face challenges and capitalise on opportunities presented by the digital era.
