Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Nezar Patria highlighted the significance of cybersecurity strategies as a pivotal element in the Vision of Digital Indonesia (VID) 2045. This document serves as a conceptual reference, policy direction, and imperative strategy for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to accelerate national digital transformation.
“VID 2045 must be implemented to achieve Digital Indonesia 2045. It is expected to guide all relevant stakeholders in successfully advancing Indonesia’s digital transformation agenda,” he stated.
The Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045 aims to elevate Indonesia beyond the middle-income trap status. According to Deputy Minister Nezar Patria, one critical aspect the Ministry emphasises is enhancing the cybersecurity culture.
“By fostering a culture of cybersecurity across all sectors, Indonesia can develop a more reliable and productive digital ecosystem. A notable example is Singapore’s approach through Digital Defence, which positions cybersecurity as a responsibility shared by all components of society,” he explained.
The Deputy Minister elaborated that Singapore’s Whole-of-Nation approach encourages every citizen to take responsibility for practising good cybersecurity habits and being vigilant against hoaxes and misinformation. He emphasised, “This includes considering the impact of personal actions in the digital space on the broader community.”
Therefore, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria urged individuals to actively participate in cybersecurity efforts according to their capacities. He also encouraged industry players to improve cybersecurity measures and continuously educate users about cybersecurity. Concurrently, academics should keep conducting research and development related to cybersecurity issues.
“Equally important, the public must continually increase their awareness and personal security practices in the digital realm,” he added.
Deputy Minister Nezar Patria praised a technology company’s initiative to organise Accelerate Asia 2024. This event will inspire similar initiatives and foster collaboration among cybersecurity stakeholders.
“Through the existing collaborations, I am confident that we can create a safer and more reliable digital space for all users. Together, we can realise a Connected Indonesia: More Digital, More Advanced,” he concluded.
To elaborate further on this vision, the VID 2045 document outlines a comprehensive strategy that includes the integration of advanced technologies, enhancement of digital infrastructure, and promotion of digital literacy among the populace. The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology aims to leverage these strategies to create an inclusive digital economy that can compete on a global scale.
One key aspect of this vision is the establishment of robust cybersecurity frameworks that protect both the public and private sectors from cyber threats. The government plans to implement stringent cybersecurity regulations and standards while also promoting public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about safe online practices.
In addition, there is a strong focus on fostering innovation through collaborations with academic institutions, tech companies, and international partners. These collaborations aim to drive research and development in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), which are crucial for securing digital infrastructure.
Moreover, VID 2045 envisions creating a digital talent pool by investing in education and training programmes that equip the workforce with the necessary skills for the digital age. This initiative is envisioned to boost employment and drive economic growth and innovation.
The Ministry also recognises the importance of maintaining a balance between technological advancement and ethical considerations. As such, ethical guidelines and governance frameworks will be established to ensure that the deployment of digital technologies aligns with societal values and respects individual privacy.
The Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045 represents a multifaceted approach to achieving a digitally advanced and secure nation. By prioritising cybersecurity, fostering innovation, and promoting digital literacy, Indonesia aims to create a sustainable digital ecosystem that benefits all sectors of society.
