In the current landscape, data integration is crucial for successful digital transformation as it enables organisations to efficiently collect, store, organise, and maintain vast amounts of data. This process is essential for making informed business decisions, ensuring data security and compliance, and leveraging data as a valuable asset for competitive advantage.

In line with this, Indonesia’s Integrated Service Unit for Human Resources Development (UPT PSDM) and the Bureau of General Administration and Information at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held an IT training session at the ITB Rectorate as well as online.

This training focused on developing data quality and utilising digital technology. The event included several important agenda items, such as a seminar regarding building data presented by the Head of BPS, Kota Bandung, Samiran, SSi, and MT.

Additionally, there were sessions on the socialisation of ITB One Data, the socialisation of the ITB Data Centre API (Data Lake), and the socialisation of object-based storage systems by the Bureau of General Administration and Information. The event was attended by administrative staff who will be serving at the ITB Integrated Service Unit (ULT).

The Head of the Bureau of General Administration and Information at ITB, Usep Mulyana, SSos, MAP, emphasised the importance of this training for ITB staff in managing quality data to be effectively communicated.

“During this training, we will cover the basics of quality data and will also receive input from BPS, which is undoubtedly more experienced in data management,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of BPS Kota Bandung, Samiran SSi, MT, stressed the need to produce quality data that can be accessed by many people. Additionally, data is crucial for making accurate decisions.

“Talking about data quality means that the more data is accessed and utilised by many people, the better. On the other hand, the measure of quality is the satisfaction of users who are our target,” he said.

Several factors must be considered when producing data. First, the measure of quality is how much users feel helped by the data. Second, the data must meet the requested needs.
“Do not view a data product from our perspective as the creators, but look at it from the user’s perspective. Therefore, we must create quality data that is widely accessed and needed by users,” he said.

This training also highlighted the importance of using digital technology in data management and public service. The socialisation of ITB One Data and the ITB Data Centre API (Data Lake) are concrete steps towards more efficient data integration and better accessibility. The object-based storage system introduced by the Bureau of General Administration and Information at ITB is an example of how modern technology can be used to manage and store data more effectively.

The use of digital technology in data management offers several benefits. First, it allows for the storage of large amounts of data with high efficiency. Second, the stored data can be accessed quickly and easily by various interested parties, both internally and externally. Third, digital technology enables the integration of data from various sources, creating a unified and coherent data system.

The implementation of digital technology in data management not only enhances the internal efficiency of the institution but also positively impacts public service. Quality data that is easily accessible will aid in making better and more timely decisions. Additionally, the public needing information will benefit from the availability of accurate and easily accessible data.

The training organised by ITB is an important step in improving data quality and utilising digital technology in the campus environment. By focusing on producing quality data and implementing modern technology, ITB not only increases internal efficiency but also enhances the quality of public service provided. Activities like this exemplify how educational institutions can actively participate in the development of digital technology and sustainable data management.
