The utilisation of 5G technology on a global scale signifies that Thailand is embarking on a transformative journey to reshape its digital landscape, making it more robust, dynamic, and adaptive to the evolving needs of the modern world.

With the advent of 5G, Thailand is positioning itself at the forefront of the digital revolution. The enhanced speed and connectivity offered by 5G are poised to revolutionise various sectors, from healthcare and education to manufacturing and transportation. This leap into the 5G era is not just about faster downloads; it’s about laying the foundation for an entirely new digital ecosystem.

Furthermore, Thailand has undertaken multiple strategic initiatives to ensure its digital ecosystem is fully prepared for the widespread adoption of 5G technology. These measures encompass not only technological readiness but also the cultivation of a skilled workforce capable of harnessing the potential of 5G.

One crucial aspect of Thailand’s preparations involves raising awareness and understanding of 5G technology. Through public awareness campaigns, educational programmes, and industry seminars, the country is actively working to ensure that businesses and individuals clearly understand the capabilities and implications of 5G. It is essential for fostering trust and encouraging widespread adoption.

Recently, Mr Puchphong Nodthaisong, the Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission assumed a leading role in orchestrating a training session for people in Thailand. This session revolved around the practical use of 5G technology and was presented through real-life experiences, forming a vital component of the ‘5G in Daily Life’ initiative. The event occurred at the Centra by Centara Hotel, within the Government Complex and Convention Centre in Chaengwattana, Bangkok.

The primary objective behind this organised training session was to foster a profound understanding of the present and future developments in 5G technology. It aimed to illuminate the multifaceted applications of this cutting-edge technology, emphasising its potential to catalyse growth across various dimensions of the country’s economy and industry. This initiative signifies a significant step towards harnessing the full potential of 5G, ultimately contributing to the advancement of Thailand’s digital economy and society.

Mr Puchphong believes that 5G technology has proven to be a game-changer by enabling high-speed, low-latency connections essential for accessing cloud-based content seamlessly. Thailand has embarked on metaverse platforms powered by augmented reality (AR) technology as the components of Thailand’s Smart City projects.

Thailand’s proactive approach to embracing 5G technology sets it apart as a leader in this transformative trend. The nation took early strides by becoming one of the first ASEAN countries to issue 5G spectrum licenses.

Moreover, Thailand’s digital landscape extends beyond connectivity. The country boasts a robust mobile payment ecosystem with a remarkable adoption rate of 89%. It places Thailand at the forefront of mobile payment adoption within the ASEAN region, demonstrating a strong inclination toward embracing digital financial solutions.

By imparting knowledge about 5G technology, the training empowered individuals to explore new opportunities and contribute to the country’s digital transformation. It ensures that the next generation of Thai professionals is well-versed in the intricacies of 5G technology, setting the stage for a digitally proficient workforce, and fostering the economic growth of the nation.
