Until June 2015, Klaus Felsche headed the Department of Immigration and Border Protection's advanced analytics area. This was responsible for developing advanced statistical models to identify potential risk in DIBPs visa and traveller caseloads. The work supported DIBPs risk tiering for visas, risk identification in visas and at the border, network analytics development and intelligent trend tracking and forecasting. Working with other Australian Government agencies, Mr Felsche developed Big Data and Big Analytics frameworks and solutions through the Australian Government's Analytics Centre of Excellence. Klaus is an avid contributor on the OpenGov platform.

Assumption: Government agencies generally believe that they have no competitive drivers to the delivery of their products and services. Collecting tax, issuing passports and visas, enforcing the laws of the country are all monopoly activities run by governments. Testing the Assumption: The assumption is partially correct – attempts by private individuals or organisations to issue national passports and conduct similar activities is clearly unlawful. The edges are, however, fraying somewhat.
