Mr Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DES), along with Professor Wisit Wisitsorn-at, Permanent Secretary for Digital Economy and Society (DES), recently held a meeting with key representatives, including Damian O’Sullivan, CEO of the Digital Foundation for European Union, Tina Wu, General Manager of digital foundation for Asia, and Dr Hugh O’Connell, Managing Director of digital Foundation for Thailand. The primary objective of this meeting was to outline a comprehensive plan to elevate the Thai workforce’s digital literacy skills and capabilities to international standards.

The workforce holds an indispensable role in the economic development of any country. As the backbone of economic productivity and progress, the workforce constitutes the collective human capital that drives various industries, businesses, and sectors. The workforce’s skills, expertise, and dedication directly impact the overall productivity, efficiency, and innovation within the economy.

A skilled and capable workforce is crucial for fostering economic growth and competitiveness on both national and global scales. When the workforce possesses diverse talents and competencies, it can contribute to a wide array of industries, from manufacturing and technology to services and finance. Moreover, a well-trained and educated workforce can attract foreign investments and boost the overall economic environment, creating a positive cycle of prosperity.

The discussion revolved around the pressing need to enhance and upgrade the digital skills of Thai workers, aligning them with global standards and preparing them to excel in the digital economy and society era. The aim is to position Thailand as a digitally advanced and competitive nation, following the government’s policy to transform the country into a Digital Thailand, embracing the principles of Thailand 4.0. This digital transformation serves as the cornerstone for driving progress across all sectors, including public administration and fostering growth in the nation’s economic and social aspects.

By empowering the workforce with advanced digital literacy, Thailand can forge ahead with its development goals, laying the foundation for a successful digital future. This strategic approach envisions a highly skilled and efficient workforce capable of harnessing the full potential of technology and well-equipped to compete internationally.

The meeting further emphasised the importance of preparing the workforce to adapt and thrive in the digital economy and society era, where technological advancements and innovation drive progress and reshape the landscape of industries. The country can unlock new opportunities for growth, innovation, and sustainable development through comprehensive digital skills development, ensuring that every citizen is equipped to participate and contribute effectively in the digital age.

This collaborative effort between key stakeholders and government representatives underscores the commitment to advancing the digital capabilities of the nation’s workforce, marking a significant step towards achieving the vision of Digital Thailand. The aim is to create a digitally proficient and competitive workforce that will benefit the nation’s economic growth, drive social progress, and empower individuals to lead successful lives in the digital era.

By laying out this roadmap for digital skills enhancement, Thailand is positioning itself as a dynamic player on the global stage, ready to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the digital revolution. The comprehensive development of digital literacy skills will enable Thailand to effectively navigate the challenges and seize the potential ahead, aligning with the nation’s goals of becoming a digitally advanced and prosperous country.
