Harnessing Generative AI Tools to Transform Public Services

Recent advancements in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) have revolutionised different industries, and the public sector is no exception. With its capability of anticipating citizens’ wants and needs real time, it has the potential to create very positive experiences for end-users, increasing public trust in the government along the way.

Advanced algorithms and neural networks make it possible for GAI to improve the way governments interact with citizens and reinvent how the public sector address challenges.

A Game Changer – Boosting Citizen-Centric Services

Although a relatively new entrant in the field of disruptive technology, GAI has already earned a repute as a definitive game-changer, poised to make irreversible changes in the way governments determine what public services need to be delivered, when, and for whom.

GAI has found its way into improving citizen services, optimising internal efficiency, analysing deep data, and working as a creative aid.

However, public sector organisations need to focus on gaining a deep understanding of the long-term implications this technology would have on the quality and delivery of public services.

Despite these apparent benefits, the use of GAI carries with it a gamut of issues and risks that should not be overlooked. These include concerns on: fairness; ethics, privacy, and security; accountability; and reliability and safety – all of which the public sector is expected to steadfastly uphold and protect.

Future of Citizen Experience and Responsible A.I

Responsible AI strategies then should be at the core of the government’s adoption of this technology. As GAI continues to evolve, not to mention its unprecedented maturity and prevalence despite it being in its early stages, the key for government organisations is to strike a balance at the intersection of regulation and innovation.

Even as global adoption increases, GAI should remain as it was designed – human-centric. Only in this way can it function as a resource that will advance the betterment of the community in which in operates.

Years down the road, GAI shall continue to be shaped by the dynamic confluence of emerging technologies, new trends in user behavior, and relevant ethical issues. What shall remain the same, however, is the need for the government to adopt the responsible and ethical use of technology, while leveraging on it, to transform public services and improve the citizens’ journey.

We will be discussing:

  • Understanding potential hazards of exposing confidential data to external systems, and strategies to prevent data breaches involving Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Analysing the trustworthiness and dependability of the results generated by the AI models
  • Leveraging on the vast potential of GAI while addressing the concerns on misuse and copyright issues
  • Predicting the journey of GAI along the innovation roadmap of Singapore’s public sector
  • Navigating the privacy, security, and ethical governance surrounding the use of GAI and automated decision-making in Singapore’s public sector
