Leveraging technology for effective and efficient vaccine distribution, administration, and management

A Platform For Collaboration

OpenGov is pleased to invite you to our exclusive OpenGovLive! Virtual Insight is aimed at imparting knowledge on how government agencies, hospitals, and healthcare organisations can optimise COVID-19 vaccination distribution, administration, and management effectively and efficiently.

Using advanced analytics and AI to shape the strategy and execution for optimal outcomes

As COVID-19 and it’s even more contagious variant continues to spread around the world, governments are facing new challenges to keep their citizens safe and businesses running.

Governments and public sector organisations are expected to respond quickly to equip their citizens and businesses with the resources to minimise the social and economic consequences.

The rapid development of vaccines from various pharmaceutical organisations has presented a glimmer of hope to contain the pandemic.

But unfortunately, the rollout of the vaccines has been far from encouraging. Getting the vaccine from the manufacturing sites to the global population is proving to be a monumental challenge.

Besides logistics, data mismatch errors and discrepancies are also plaguing the effective outreach.

In certain places, the COVID-19-vaccine effort has hit a few speed bumps; stockpiles have accumulated, and deployment to vulnerable countries and at-risk groups has been slower than expected.

There is an urgent need to plan the processes, infrastructure, and organisations in place to adequately and effectively manage the vaccine administration and distribution system.

Indonesia has rolled out a mass COVID-19 vaccination programme, aiming at vaccinating two-thirds of the population to reach herd immunity, with a deadline of 15 months for the programme to be completed.

But the sheer size of the population and its geographical extent – with 270 million citizens spreading across more than 17,000 islands – make the vaccination task a very challenging one.

The COVID-19 vaccine distribution and management challenges are of a scale and magnitude no one has ever witnessed and are unprecedented, to say the least.

Governments alone cannot address this challenge, and no one organisation can claim an end-to-end solution or capability.

Unique methodologies and innovative technology solutions are necessary, with the essential support of public and private partnerships to address this mammoth challenge. These actions must be in place beforehand to reduce the lead-time for full vaccination in any given country.

The epidemiological end to the COVID-19 is well within reach with successful distribution, administration, and management of vaccines.

Harnessing analytical strategies to optimise vaccination programmes

COVID-19 pandemic has created extraordinary challenges for governments, health care systems, and supply chains.

The response to COVID-19 is made more complex by the pandemic’s constantly changing dynamics, requiring health and government decision-makers to quickly understand, measure, and react.

The need of the hour is to reduce the mortality rate, infection rate, and stopping the pandemic as quickly as possible through immediate and long-term vaccination strategies.

Governments have struggled to balance the need to create an orderly, risk-driven prioritisation strategy while quickly administering all of the doses they have been allocated.

Integrating data to calculate the size of prioritised populations in given geographic areas enables a data-driven vaccine allocation strategy that maximises throughput and minimises wasted dosages.

Locating and estimating the size of these populations will be critical to developing an effective allocation strategy. This complex task can be fraught with technical challenges; for instance, creating an analytically valid estimation that identifies targeted populations across data sources.

This points to several questions –

  • Do the government agencies and healthcare organisations have the tools and methodologies to classify, prioritise and locate at-risk citizens?
  • Do the agencies have the know-how to determine if there is an adequate localised capacity to administer the vaccine and monitor adverse events?
  • What can they do when faced with the unprecedented logistical / supply chain problems of vaccination programmes?
  • What are the insights needed to identify administration problems, monitor gaps in care, and update vaccine need projections?

This session serves as a great peer-to-peer learning platform to gain insights and practical solutions to understand how to optimise medical resources to reduce mortality rate, infection rate, and stopping pandemic quicker.

We will be discussing how to:

  • Predict evolving resource needs across jurisdictions such as various provinces to optimise allocation strategies
  • Monitor and forecast uptake to help ensure alignment with anticipated need, provider requests, and vaccine distributions
  • Analyse unexpected gaps in vaccination administration to guide outreach and engagement efforts
  • Anticipate barriers to delivering second doses
  • Gain insights on changes in susceptibility, rate of transmission, status population immunity, etc.
  • Create scenarios to model the impact of mitigation policies
  • Leverage clinical data to create symptomology dashboards
  • Build localised epidemiological models for planning
