The AI Governance Clinic by ETDA (AIGC Centre) recently organised a meeting, bringing together national and international experts to facilitate an exchange of ideas and perspectives on AI Governance.

This significant event marks a pivotal moment for the Thai government, showcasing its commitment to enhancing public service delivery by integrating AI into governance processes. By harnessing the transformative power of AI, the government aims to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and optimise the effectiveness of its governance practices.

The conference was led by Prof Dr Urs Gasser from the School of Social Sciences and Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. Attending him were a team of accomplished experts, also known as Fellows, from the AIGC Centre. Additionally, Dr Sak Sekkhuntod, a senior consultant from ETDA, further enriched the discussions and insights during the event.

Through the attendees’ collective expertise and diverse perspectives, the conference aimed to chart a path towards a more robust and responsible approach to implementing AI in the governance sphere.

Last May, a meeting discussing the AIGC Centre also took place in Thailand, where the government of Thailand, along with Prof Dr Urs Gasser, the chairman of the meeting, and other network agencies, participated in sharing their opinions during the session.

The overarching goal was to provide valuable recommendations and guidance for the management of AI Governance, particularly concerning the draft framework that had already received approval from the AI Governance Committee (AIGC) Centre.

Recognising the significance of diverse perspectives, the meeting aimed to foster an inclusive environment where stakeholders from various backgrounds could contribute their opinions, insights, and expertise. By actively listening to these valuable inputs, the intention was to enhance the draft framework, making it more comprehensive, robust, and reflective of the evolving needs and challenges in AI Governance.

The gathering provided:

  • An invaluable platform for knowledge sharing.
  • Fostering collaboration.
  • Identifying best practices in AI Governance.

It underscored the importance of building a solid foundation of ethical guidelines, legal frameworks, and regulatory mechanisms to ensure the responsible and equitable deployment of AI technologies in the public sector.

“By fostering knowledge sharing, brainstorming, and collaborative discussions, it will ultimately shape and strengthen the AI Governance framework,” said Gasser.

Embracing AI Governance as a transformative force in Thailand will position the nation as a progressive leader in leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance public service delivery. This strategic move is set to revolutionise the governance landscape, enabling greater efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness to the evolving needs of citizens.

Furthermore, (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) UNESCO attended this meeting to advance the AI field by releasing comprehensive AI Readiness Assessment Methodology guidelines. These guidelines have been widely recognised and embraced by nations worldwide, including Thailand.

The inclusion of UNESCO’s guidelines within the framework of AIGC demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to ensuring a well-informed and responsible approach to AI implementation. By incorporating the valuable knowledge and practical insights gained from these guidelines, AIGC is equipped with a robust foundation to guide its operations effectively.

Through this collaboration with UNESCO and other international partners, AIGC has benefited from the exchange of ideas and best practices and gained access to a wealth of valuable information and resources. These inputs have been instrumental in shaping the operational strategies of AIGC, enabling the centre to contribute significantly to advancing AI governance and implementation in Thailand.

In the future, the network established through this partnership will continue to serve as a solid foundation for fostering international cooperation, promoting knowledge sharing, and advancing AI governance practices. These efforts will benefit Thailand and contribute to the global dialogue on responsible and ethical AI implementation.
