The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) signed an agreement to jointly foster innovative entrepreneurial talents as well as launch the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Immersive Experience Project”. This project aims to accelerate talent exchange and nurture entrepreneurship cooperation projects in both regions, to develop a high-quality talent ecosystem in innovation and technology.

The signing ceremony was held at GDUT’s National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base – GDUT Innovation Valley in the University Town Campus. The signing was witnessed by the Chairman of the PolyU Council; the Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU; the Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship at PolyU; the Secretary of the GDUT Party Committee; the Vice President of GDUT; and member of the GDUT Party Committee and Vice President. The cooperation agreement was signed by the President of PolyU and the President of GDUT, on behalf of both institutions.

The Chairman of the PolyU Council stated that the collaboration between the two universities is expected to fully leverage the strengths of both institutions to contribute to the establishment of a world-class bay area in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

He said that PolyU has established a complete entrepreneurial cultivation ecosystem, with ‘innovation and entrepreneurship’ becoming a compulsory course for undergraduate students. With the launch of this cooperation project, the two universities will engage in comprehensive cooperation, including establishing a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship talent services in both regions, organising international exchange activities jointly, and promoting the landing of entrepreneurship cooperation projects for students from both universities, in order to cultivate high-quality innovative and entrepreneurial talents across multiple fields.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the GDUT Party Committee stated that cross-border cooperation in talent cultivation is an important initiative for both universities to anchor the strategic positioning of ‘one point, two places’ in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, integrate into the construction of the Greater Bay Area, and promote the high-quality development of the universities.

GDUT will work with PolyU to jointly create a new benchmark for promoting the integrated development of a Chinese-style modern Bay Area, and collaborate to cultivate top-notch innovative talents, contributing to the establishment of a world-class talent highland in the Greater Bay Area and facilitating student exchanges between the two regions, providing opportunities for young people from Guangdong and Hong Kong to integrate into the development of the times.

PolyU and GDUT will embark on comprehensive cooperation, utilising the teaching resources, professional talents, and social networks of both universities to achieve resource sharing and promote coordinated development conducive to the training of innovative entrepreneurial talents. This will facilitate students from both regions to conceive and develop entrepreneurial projects and incubate them in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

By 2030, global spending on education and training is projected to surpass US$10 trillion, driven by population growth in developing regions and advancements in technology prompting significant reskilling and upskilling efforts in developed countries.

Over the next decade, there will be an increase of approximately 350 million individuals graduating from post-secondary education and nearly 800 million more K12 graduates compared to current levels. Asia and Africa will be the main contributors to this growth.
