Australian National University appoints inaugural CEO of ANU Cyber Institute

According to the announcement
made by the Australian National University (ANU), it has appointed Dr Lesley
Seebeck as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its new ANU Cyber
Institute. She is a leader in cyber security, with an outstanding record of
strategic planning and delivery within complex and multidisciplinary
environments spanning government, industry and academia.

The Australian National University (ANU)
has established the new ANU Cyber Institute in order to combine expertise from
across a range of disciplines that will conduct leading research, which will
help shape the nation's future in the increasingly vital fields of cyber
security and innovation.

For its inaugural CEO, the ANU has
appointed Dr Lesley Seebeck to lead the Cyber Institute. Dr Seebeck will take
up the position in late July 2018.

She will be joining ANU from the Digital Transformation
(DTA). She will be bringing with her a wealth of experiences
from across the strategy, ICT and transformation sectors to the new institute.

Professor Elanor Huntington, Dean of the
College of Engineering and Computer Science, was thrilled to welcome Dr
Lesley's immense experience to the ANU. She said, "Dr Seebeck is a leader
in cyber security, with an outstanding record of strategic planning and
delivery within complex and multidisciplinary environments spanning government,
industry and academia."

Professor Huntington added, “Under Lesley's
leadership, I am confident the institute will contribute significantly to the
nation's increasing focus on Cyber Security and deliver innovative solutions to
challenges faced by us all.”

Professor Huntington said, “Lesley's
appointment will strengthen the breadth of cyber related research, innovation
and teaching opportunities across campus, to go beyond established boundaries
and forge new paths.”

She added, “With a focus on bringing
together people from a range of backgrounds, Lesley will contribute strongly to
the Reimagine project by shaping a problem inspired teaching, research and
innovation agenda for the coming decades.”

The DTA is an Executive Agency within the Prime
Minister and Cabinet Portfolio that exists to make it easy for people to deal
with government, by helping government transform services to be simple clear
and fast. Currently, Dr Lesley Seebeck is the Chief Investment and Advisory
Officer of the Agency.
