OpenGov Asia held the fifth edition of its Annual Malaysian OGLF. The forum included stimulating round-table discussions with innovative gamification methods, engaging panels and insightful talks by local and international leaders in public sector ICT.
Concurrently, OpenGov Asia held the OpenGov Recognition of Excellence (RoE) 2019, a commendation that aims to establish new benchmarks for government ICT innovation in the ASEAN and ANZ regions.
Over the last year, Malaysia has been setting the bar for innovation and technological advancement. The region has worked continuously to inspire and sustain innovation through its policies, infrastructure and economic decisions.
This year, OpenGov recognised 12 Malaysian government agencies that are working to support Malaysia’s digital transformation efforts.
The award winners for Malaysian OpenGov Recognition of Excellence 2019 are:
Selangor State Education Department
OpenGov recognised Selangor State Education Department for its Graduate Academic Competence Empowerment Programme.
In line with the uprising Industry 4.0, this programme aims to develop STEM skills in secondary school students with a series of educational workshops and seminars alongside STEM-related competitions and a mentoring programme.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
OpenGov recognised Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for its Graduate Academic Competence Empowerment Programme.

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)
OpenGov recognised Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) for launching the first nanosatellite made by a Malaysian university.
The UiTMSAT-1 has six missions while in space. These are image retrieval, testing satellite location correlation, Global Positioning System (GPS) chip test, measuring the magnetic field in space for geomagnetic mapping data for the Southeast Asia region and radio communications.
