OpenGov Asia held the fifth edition of its Annual Malaysian OGLF. The forum included stimulating round-table discussions with innovative gamification methods, engaging panels and insightful talks by local and international leaders in public sector ICT.
Concurrently, OpenGov Asia held the OpenGov Recognition of Excellence (RoE) 2019, a commendation that aims to establish new benchmarks for government ICT innovation in the ASEAN and ANZ regions.
Over the last year, Malaysia has been setting the bar for innovation and technological advancement. The region has worked continuously to inspire and sustain innovation through its policies, infrastructure and economic decisions.
This year, OpenGov recognised 12 Malaysian government agencies that are working to support Malaysia’s digital transformation efforts.
The award winners for Malaysian OpenGov Recognition of Excellence 2019 are:
Ministry of Education (Higher Education)
OpenGov recognised the Ministry of Education (Higher Education) for its e-Scroll System. MoE has established a university consortium including 6 founding members universities to be a central knowledge on blockchain.
With the efforts of the consortium, MoE has launched a new system to eradicate fake degree certificates while upholding the standards and quality of Malaysia’s higher education by authenticating and verifying certificates using NEM (XEM) Blockchain Technology.
Ministry of Housing and Local Government
OpenGov recognised the Ministry of Housing and Local Government for its i-Tegur System. This innovative mobile application allows citizens to send issues to local authorities directly so that the authorities can address these concerns more efficiently.
Citizens are able to make complaints about potholes, parking/building, garbage, drainage and even insects issues in their area. Those complaints are sent straight to their local government where they are able to monitor the issues using a personalised dashboard. Besides that, this system allows the KPKT to monitor the efficiency of local governments.
Ministry of International Trade and Industry
OpenGov recognised the Ministry of International Trade and Industry for its Industry 4wrd: National Policy on Industry 4.0.
In response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), the Industry4WRD: National Policy on Industry 4.0 was launched to drive the digital transformation of the manufacturing and related services sectors in Malaysia.
The Malaysian government (MITI) has produced a National policy framework for Industry 4.0 to specifically enhance and implement the smart factory industry of manufacturing in Malaysia. This document targets a range of stakeholders, with the aim of encouraging manufacturing firms to work with the entire manufacturing ecosystem to address the challenges and act on the identified enablers.
MITI will be supporting this initiative through a few methods of technical working groups, workshops and interviews to enable the enhancement of digital capabilities in the manufacturing industry to be smart, systematic and resilient.
